I have a 1970s Onkyo X-3 4-Channel Surround Stereo System (integrated amp/receiver) that produces a loud, low-frequency hum when powered on. Hum is constant and unaffected by any front panel control (volume, bass, treble, balance, etc.) Hum remains identical regardless of which input is selected (Phono, Tape, FM, AUX) No cables are plugged into any RCA inputs — hum persists even with nothing connected Likely the aging electrolytic capacitors in the power supply that needs a recap though I'd welcome a proper diagnosis from someone experienced with vintage hi-fi equipment.

During fault finding, one channel (CH2) exhibited DC offset and the fault progressed to a high-current condition. The unit now no longer powers up and appears to have a short in the output/driver stage.
