Looking for someone with an engineering, fabrication, workshop automation, or strong DIY/mechanical background to help design and build a bench-top devalving station for empty non-refillable cylinders. Purpose: safely and efficiently remove small brass threaded valves/necks from empty non-refillable cylinders such as Smartwhip-style N2O canisters, Billi/Zip tap CO2 bottles, and cream chargers, so the metal can be recycled. This is currently done manually with a rattle gun and special socket. I want to improve efficiency and safety by building a simple station where the cylinder is clamped securely and the valve area is guarded. Important: all cylinders are checked/vented before this step. This is not for gas filling, gas handling, or pressure work. It is only for mechanical removal of valves from already-checked cylinders. I still want fallback safety in case residual gas ever remains. Looking for: Bench-top/workbench-mounted fixture Rubber-lined V-cradle to hold cylinder horizontally Clamp to stop spinning/movement, ideally foot-pedal pneumatic Guide/support for rattle gun/socket alignment Valve-side capture tunnel/guard Steel/rubber/polycarbonate guarding around valve end Chute/bin for removed brass valves Faster and safer than fully manual work Main safety feature: the valve end should sit inside a capture tunnel/box. The rattle gun stays outside, with only the socket entering through an access sleeve. If a valve came loose unexpectedly, it should be contained by steel/rubber/polycarbonate guarding and directed down into a bin. Ideal person: fabrication, pneumatic clamps, workshop jigs, mechanical design, maintenance fitting, metalwork, or DIY automation experience. Please reply with your experience, how you’d approach it, whether you can work with air tools/pneumatics, rough labour/materials estimate, and any safety/efficiency suggestions.
