I'm looking for a wonderfully organised human who gets a tiny thrill from old paper, neat spreadsheets and solving the occasional forty-year-old mystery. Around 30 archive boxes have travelled from California to Sydney. Inside are graduate school lecture transcripts, manuscripts, correspondence, course materials, personal papers and the occasional delightful plot twist. I'm not looking for scanning or digitising. I'm looking for someone to help create order before we decide what happens next. Over an initial 4-hour session we'll: 📚 Review boxes and folders 🗂️ Create a Google Sheet inventory 📅 Identify categories and chronological sequences 📝 Log transcripts, manuscripts, correspondence and personal papers 🏷️ Build a finding system so Future Us doesn't have to open 30 boxes to find one lecture from Winter 1978. Nothing leaves the house. Nothing gets thrown away. Tea and biscuits appear regularly. Perfect for someone with experience or study in archives, libraries, psychology, history, museum studies or anyone who believes a beautifully labelled folder is a legitimate source of joy. I’m looking for someone experienced with book interior formatting/typesetting to clean up the layout of my 5x8 inch paperback manuscript for print. The manuscript is already written, but the interior formatting needs to be fixed so it looks professional and ready for publishing. Main tasks: Reduce the paragraph/dialogue first-line indent by about half so it looks like a standard subtle book indent. Remove the extra vertical blank lines between paragraphs so the text flows continuously. Change the body text to fully justified alignment, while keeping the word spacing tight and natural. Check the gutter/inside margin so the text does not get swallowed near the spine after binding. Use a professional readable serif body font such as Garamond, Caslon, Minion Pro, or similar. Set body text around 10.5–11 pt, preferably 11 pt. Set line spacing/leading around 1.2x to 1.3x the font size. Set paragraph first-line indents to around 0.2–0.25 inches, not manual tabs. Check margins for a 5x8 print book, with an inside gutter around 0.75–0.875 inches and outside/top/bottom margins around 0.5–0.75 inches. Make sure every new chapter starts on a new page. Format chapter numbers/titles professionally, with chapter pages starting lower on the page. I need someone who understands novel/book formatting, not just basic Word document editing. The final file needs to be clean, consistent, and suitable for paperback upload to Amazon KDP or similar self-publishing platforms. Please only apply if you have experience formatting book interiors for print. It would be helpful if you can show examples of previous book formatting work.
