Our client has commissioned us to explore how Australian men experience modern masculinity, friendship and social connection — and how brands can play a constructive role in this space. To ensure the work is grounded in credible evidence and theory, we're seeking academic support to help analyse and synthesise an existing set of materials gathered from academic, social, and commercial sources. Objective To produce a concise synthesis of approx. 30 documents related to modern masculinity and male social connection. Scope of Work We have compiled around 30 documents, including: • Academic papers and journal articles • Social and cultural commentaries • Commercial reports and thought pieces The academic’s role is to: 1. Review and synthesise the material, grouping ideas into major themes and concepts 2. Identify key points of convergence, divergence and uncertainty across sources. 3. Participate in working sessions to discuss findings and ensure alignment with the broader research program. Deliverables 1. A summary report (10-20 pages) outlining key themes, frameworks, and implications. 2. An annotated summary table of all reviewed materials. 3. Optional: short presentation or discussion session with our team. Timing and Practicalities • Duration: 3–4 weeks • Estimated commitment: ~4–5 days’ total work. • We will provide: access to all documents, briefing and guidance on desired outputs. Ideal Collaborator A PhD candidate or early-career academic in gender studies, sociology, psychology or cultural/media studies with experience in literature synthesis. Someone comfortable bridging academic and applied perspectives, and able to write clearly for both audiences.
