Top Electric Boiler Installation & Repairs related questions

No, you don’t need to provide any tools or equipment. Your hired boiler installation and repair expert has the skills, experience and tools of their own to do the service. You need only provide the electric boiler and all its parts. However, there's no harm in having spare supplies like plumber’s tape or soldering paste ready in case your hired specialist runs out.

That depends on the size of the electric boiler and the complexity of the installation or repair tasks. Should the job entail a few simple adjustments and fixes to an existing boiler, the service can take as little as an hour. However, it can take an entire day to remove an old boiler, set it aside or dispose of it, and replace it with the installation of a new boiler.

Yes! Should you offer electric boiler installation or repairs yourself and there are more jobs than you can handle, feel free to hire a Tasker to assist. You can find Taskers for hundreds of different jobs, even related and unusual jobs like oven cleaning, insulation and appliance repair. Just make a detailed post with all your specific needs for a Tasker to assist. This will match you to the right Taskers and avoid any misunderstanding.

Sometimes, yes. If your home is located in an earthquake zone, ask your Tasker if installing seismic straps to your electric boiler is part of the service package. But if you live in an area that isn’t known for much seismic activity, you may have to request this specifically. Note that whether you’re in an earthquake zone or not, flexible hosing will be installed as a safety measure on your boiler.

Electric boilers have some advantages over petrol boilers. These are safer as they have no risk of emitting hazardous carbon monoxide. Electric boilers run quieter than conventional petrol boilers and have less chance of developing problems as they have comparatively fewer moving parts. However, electric boilers are not ideal for large homes; they’re better suited to smaller homes that have lower demands for heating and hot water and aren’t linked to a petrol line.

It’s entirely possible for you to install an electric boiler yourself, with caveats. As long as you have the experience, skills, an assistant and the right equipment, you can certainly do this. However, this can be a physically taxing and complicated task. Don’t risk performing the installation yourself if you lack the tools or the know-how; it would be better to use Airtasker and find an expert to do this for you instead.

What do electric boiler installation and repair services include?

This service includes all the tasks needed to get your electric boiler working to provide hot water in your home, whether it’s a new installation or fixing an existing one. This can involve removing the old water heater to make way for the new installation.

Other tasks can include positioning the tank, installing pipes, connecting the expansion tank, connecting the temperature and pressure valve, and attaching the electrical connections and wiring. Your handyman can also repair damaged electric boilers.

Removing the old water heater

Some boiler electricians can remove an old water heater to make way for a new one. Your specialist begins by cutting off the power and shutting off the water at their mains. A bucket is used to catch any water stored in the boiler that will pour out of its pipes. They can then detach all the pipes and connections and transfer the old boiler tank to a storage area. Some electric boiler installers may offer to dispose of the old tank for you.

Positioning the new electric boiler

Your hired boiler specialist can determine and place the boiler tank in the most appropriate spot in your basement, and centre them on a raised platform for easier access and as a safety measure against flooding. If you don’t have a raised platform, some specialists can make one for you for an additional fee.

Fitting and installing pipes

Next, your specialist installs the pipes. They measure the pipes and cut them to the right widths and lengths. They can remove the burrs on the lip and inner portions of the pipes to ensure better flow. Each pipe installation is wrapped with plumber’s tape, soldered or installed in both methods when necessary, for additional safety and protection against leaks.

The appropriate components like compression nuts, rings and flexible hose are likewise installed; your specialist ensures that all these installations have a perfect seal and a tight fit.

Attaching the expansion tank, temperature and pressure valve

Your boiler installation specialist attaches the expansion tank to the cold-water supply line next to or above the electric heater. The pipes they install are cut to the right lengths, deburred and soldered as needed. Your specialist can match the pressure of the expansion tank with your water line’s pressure using a handheld air pump once the expansion tank is installed. They finish the installation and seal the tank and pipes with soldering if necessary.

Attaching electrical connections

With the power and water still off, your specialist attaches the electrical wiring of the boiler to your main circuit breaker. Once all installations are done, they turn the water and power on and test if the water in your spigots run hot.

Repairing a damaged electrical boiler

If you need an electric boiler repair service, your specialist inspects the boiler with the power and water shut off. They check for leaks in pipes, joints and fittings, pressure imbalances or other issues and do the appropriate fixes.

Install indoor tankless gas Combi Boiler

$7,500

Saint Paul, MN 55104, USA

Dec 7th 2023

Full Disclosure, we are half way closing on the home, with expected handover on Dec 29th, so we're flexible with date, but ideally as close to the 29th as possible. It has a 20yr old boiler and heater in the basement, and looking to replace it with something like: Noritz 11.1-GPM 199000-BTU Indoor/Outdoor Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater https://www.lowes.com/pd/Noritz-Indoor-Residential-Condensing-Natural-Gas-Combination-Boiler-with-199-900-BTU-H-Input-Modulating/5001757587 Happy to either purchase the unit and required parts, or have it all combined. It will be located in the basement, and will need a new vent to the side of the house (previously in the chimney which has been recommended not to do again). House uses radiators for heating, and has been assessed to need 150k BTU minimum. Would be ideal to have the old systems removed and disposed of, but that's not deal breaker. If I forgot any context or anything else let me know! - Due date: Needs to be done on Thursday, December 28, 2023

Fix problem on two Nest thermostats installed with System 2000 boiler

$150

Montville, NJ 07045, USA

Oct 16th 2023

2 Nest thermostats (not Nest E or Nest Learning) are installed with a System 2000 boiler from Energy Kinetics (4 other zones still have conventional thermostats). Each Nest thermostat required a Nest Power Connector and a resistor. The Nest thermostats work well to turn on the heat according to the schedule set in the Google Home app. They also seem to stop calling for heat according to the schedule. However, the boiler keeps sending heat to these zones for an hour or more even though the thermostat is no longer calling for heat. Even if I turn the thermostat to Off, the boiler keeps sending heat. I would like someone familiar with Nest thermostats and System 2000 boilers to fix the system so that the boiler does not send heat when the thermostat does not call for it. Note: The boiler originally ran on oil but was converted to gas. - Due date: Flexible
