I’m Mark, Development Chef at The Oast House. Are you a self-confessed Christmas Dinner connoisseur? Do you love pigs in blankets? Do you love the trimmings as much as the turkey? If yes, then I’ve got the ideal task for you! We’re searching for one Mancunian resident to attend the ultimate Christmas taste-test for this year’s star of the show - pigs in blankets - and give us some honest feedback to help us perfect our Christmas nibbles menu. One lucky candidate will be chosen to taste the best of Christmas and attend an exclusive session at The Oast House. Here, you’ll be served a range of pigs in blankets - each portion paired with a twist - throwing up some interesting flavour combinations. We’re interested to hear if traditional pigs in blankets suffice, or whether we can open your mind (and taste buds) to some tasty new twists on the festive classic?... Oh, and did we mention you’ll also be paid £500 for YOUR time? If this task sounds right up your street, we want to know why. Simply click “make an offer” and share a story of your funniest Christmas moment to date. Maybe you committed a major festive faux pas, such as burning the turkey to a crisp, and having to settle on sandwiches (plus all the trimmings!) for Christmas Dinner? Or perhaps your family dog knocked over the Christmas tree and ate half the presents that were under it? If you’ve got a funny Christmas story that will forever stick in your mind, we want to hear all about it! The applicant with the story that makes us laugh or cry the most will be given the chance to join us at the tasting session. Unsuccessful applicants will be able to enjoy the unique twists on our Christmas menu from December 1st Task Info: You will be paid £500 to attend a session at the restaurant. The tasting session will take place at The Oast House, Spinningfields. The lucky winner will be able to bring a friend along to the tasting experience if they wish.

So last year at uni, a couple of days before we broke up for Christmas, two housemates and I hosted a dinner for our friends. Aside from the logistical difficulties of seating twelve around a table that could just about fit five of us, the theme of the dinner was that nobody would be told what the dishes were - at any point. My housemates and I split the dishes, and I ended up with the starter - perfect for me, as I'd rather focus on that perfect taste than organising a full main course. In the end, I made breaded toffee cheese melts, the cheese provided by a stall at the Manchester Christmas Market. The taste was quite unique, and unsurprisingly, nobody could identify what was inside the melts that gave them their flavour. However, opinion generally agreed that they tasted good, whatever they were. A year on, our friends still have no idea that the core was a toffee cheese - but the Christmas Market is back, our friends are planning a party this time, and I'm going to give them another shot at taste-testing them. Separately, I also tried this with goats' cheese and cranberry, and can fully recommend those as well.

One year our family decided to spend Christmas abroad and thought it would be a nice idea to hire a small boat and take it for a spin on Christmas morning. We packed some breakfast and off we went. We took the boat quite far out to sea as the company who rented it to us warned us of staying too close to shore. We didn't mind too much as it was as still as a mill pond and there was nothing but miles of ocean before us, a lovely way to spend Christmas morning. My brother asks my dad if he can have a turn at steering the boat. "Shouldn't be a problem" thinks Dad. We were far enough out that he couldn't crash the thing, there was nothing to crash into. WRONG. After a couple of minutes of my brother excitedly zig-zagging this boat across the Med, there is an awful scraping, sound and we come to a sudden, juddering halt. Turns out, my brother is uniquely talented in that he is the only person I know that could run a boat aground on the only chunk of rock in the middle of the sea for miles around. We didn't have phone signal, we were in the middle of nowhere so we resigned ourselves to the fact we would be spending Christmas day doing a three-man version of Castaway. Luckily a few hours later, a small fishing boat came by and gave us a lift. We even managed to make it home in time for dinner and in all honesty, we had quite a good time stranded on that boat for a little while. My brother isn't allowed near heavy machinery now though.

Hi Mark! My Christmas tale is a yearly classic, December 25th each year my whole extended family get together at my grandparents, following the dinner we always sit down and play a kind of hybrid bingo game. There are a pile of gag presents and a few pretty cool ones all in the middle of the room, we then proceed to play a game of bingo however the catch is you take a present for every number you get on your card, once all from the middle are taken you begin to "steal" them from each other. It's a great family bonding game we do and makes it all the more funny when you find out that people have been back and forth stealing what ends up to be novelty dish gloves or a 5p coin inside never ending boxes and wrapping from each other. The story I feel is very funny in a wholesome way, and honestly look forward to it every year! (second to the kickass dinner that is)
