Does Airtasker cover leather car seat restoration and car paint restoration?

Yes, taskers can handle both jobs. These are only two of the inclusions in a full car restoration project. Other related tasks that they can handle include stripping, welding, reassembly, and reupholstery—basically, restoring everything from bonnet to boot.

No need to look for shops in town or book an appointment—with Airtasker, you can get experts to do the job at a location that’s convenient for you.

Can a tasker restore my car at home?

Yes, your tasker can do the project at your home, workplace, or even your garage. Just input your location when posting a task.

What do car restoration services include?

Car restoration projects start with careful research on the car’s original condition. With Airtasker, you can work hand-in-hand with an automobile expert from the comfort of your home, workplace, or garage. You can give specific instructions and provide the parts and tools that you want your service provider to use, or ask them for recommendations. You can choose to have only specific parts like the paint or leather car seats restored or go for all-out classic car restoration.

Depending on the appearance you want to achieve and your vehicle’s needs, your car restorer will be handling the following tasks:

Preparation for car restoration
Clear a space for the whole process. Keep in mind that your vehicle and car restorer will be in that space for a long time, so make sure that the work area is not obstructed and that it won’t block any passageways in your home or garage.
Take lots of pictures and share your research or desired look beforehand. Make sure that you and your tasker are aligned in terms of how you want your car to look.

Disassembly
Your tasker will start removing your car’s gas tank, battery, chrome and stainless steel pieces, glass parts, and seats. After this, your car’s headliner, door trim, interior trim, and carpet will be removed. Your car’s dashboard instruments will have their wire positions marked before removal. Finally, your tasker will remove the boot and bonnet lids, the doors, engine, transmission, body, and suspensions.

Do note that the whole disassembly process will take around 40 hours alone.

The main event: Car restoration
Your car restoration expert will then clean, repaint, re-plate, and re-chrome your car’s parts and accessories. They will also handle repair work that needs to be done. Depending on the need, they can even replace any parts or re-upholster the seats. They can strip, clean, and repaint your car’s frame, weld in new metal, and replace instruments like the car’s radio and heater box.

After car restoration: Reassembly
Once you are satisfied with the restoration of all the components, your tasker will rebuild your vehicle. The usual process is to install the wiring harness, followed by the dashboard instruments. The interior trim will be replaced, followed by the front and rear glass. Then, the doors will be rehung, the seats reinstalled, and the boot area fitted out. Then, the bumpers and exterior trim will be replaced.

Before putting the lid on the bonnet, your car restorer will check if the vehicle is in good working condition. At this point, you’ll want to check on the project yourself, to be sure that everything’s hunky-dory before you hit the road.

Restoration of a VW beetle to get over "pits"

$2,000

Osborne Park WA 6017, Australia

3rd Feb 2017

Looking for a car enthusiast to get a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle convertible over the pits and registered. It needs a lot of body work so you will need to be proficient in welding and "doing up" a car. All mechanic work will be paid for by me. Brakes, engine, parts & replaced panels. The car can be viewed in Osborne Park. The car can be moved to your house for the work to be done there. It would suit someone that has done a few cars themselves and might just enjoy the experience. To be sure the car needs a lot of work. It might suit a retired panel beater or mechanic or car enthusiast. I'd like to see your work obviously and other car projects you might have done.

Auto Electrician for 1972 TA22 Celica Restoration

$360

Yeerongpilly QLD, Australia

30th May 2020

Hi, I’m looking for an auto electrician to help with my TA22 Celica restoration. The date is not firm, job can be done at any time over the next month that is mutually suitable. If there is likely more than 8 hours work here so once we establish how much work there is, I’ll increase the amount through air taster or pay CIH. The first thing I want is a estimate of cost to complete what needs to be done upon inspection. I started the project but due to injury cannot complete it myself. So the car is partially dismantled. There will be quite a bit of trouble shooting and chasing wires to get everything working. I can provide guidance as to what is what in the birds nest. There are photos attached to give you an idea what the job it. I’m looking at getting the wiring back together so I can get someone else to complete the next step of getting some rust fixed by a body shop and the car reassembled. The car is located at my house, locked garage and the work will need to be done there. Regarding parts and materials, either I can supply, or you can at cost+ at rate to be negotiated. No parts should be required as I purchased most, but materials such as wire, connectors, ties, conduit... will be required. There is a list below of all the things I think need to be done. If listed below, the task either means reconnect, run new wire, troubleshoot... etc. It would take way too long to describe in detail and it would be best if you come and take a look at what needs to be done. I have wiring diagrams, manuals that may help. But the wiring is about as simple as it gets. a. Head lights, inc new relays b. Ignition coil c. Tacho d. Stereo and speakers e. Cabin lights and door switches f. Instrument cluster g. Central locking h. Battery, relocate to boot? i. Starter j. Alarm k. Horn l. Fuse holder m. Replace or repair rear license plate lights. n. Battery. o. Front and front side indicators p. Front Parker lights q. Voltage regulator r. Fuel tank level sender reconnect s. Grommets for cable holes. So, if you’ve got this far. Let me know what your experience is, ask any questions and we can go from there. I got the rate from Seek ads for auto electricians, make an offer if you think I’m low... or high of course :) I’m flexible on when the job is done. Thanks Patrick

Restoration Holden FX Ute - [Content Moderated]

$3,000

Central Coast NSW, Australia

25th Dec 2019

Complete Holden FX Ute 1952 has been in storage container last 20 years (owned for 30 years). Was fully running and road registered driven some weekends but had some damage rear corner occur, surface rust just starting to develop 20 years back and was then pulled down to do restoration by myself. Marriage, kids, a few challenges of life combined with work has meant i didn’t get around to setup to do the job. I am still to busy so am looking for someone to do the job. Everything is there and it is in etch primer and sitting on the running chassis with engine and drive train as was last running. Doors, through bonnet guards etc are all removed. Needs someone with appreciation, time and all round car restore skills to work through rolling chassis clean up including drum brakes reworked, clutch change, engine cleaned up, radiator etc and repainted. Panel work, some panel beating to do, remove old etch primer, fill, prep surface, repaint car. Perhaps you are retired and/or love working on an old classic and this project is similar to past works you have done. If you are near by on the Central Coast and have some garage or shed space I am open to the car being worked on at your own pace with progress plan and payments being made on stages review. I have some of the consumables and materials required, manuals tools compressor, air tools, sprayer and can also fund all materials/outsourced bits as required so you are not out of pocket as you work on it. I am not loaded so this will be coming from my hard earned otherwise it would have gone to mechanics for rebuild and then panel beater, paint shop or restorer. Ideally looking for a lover of such cars, has time, skills, pride in workmanship and is prepared to work on it for a reasonable fee. Cash payments possible and open to your thoughts on fixed fee (with progress payments) material cost met by me so primarily your labour. Finish is to be to achieve blue slip and a good looking car to drive on weekends. I am not interested in concourse or totally original for shows but a car that will turn a head with some mechanical mods that make it more driver friendly. Yes it has matching numbers, grey motor but I am looking at having the chrome stand out with a dark blue or black with some deep dish old style chrome mags. Start January - finished by June 2020 (6 months)
