I have a holden astra 2001 What happened: I was driving when the car suddenly wouldn’t let me accelerate any further. The engine warning lights came on and the car shut off while driving. When I opened the bonnet, I saw a small amount of smoke coming from the front/top area of the engine on the drive belt side. The smoke stopped quickly, but after that the car would not start again. The car was towed home. I tried jump starting it but it still won’t turn over. From what I’ve read, this may be a serpentine (drive) belt failure, possibly affecting the alternator/water pump, but I’m not certain. I need someone to diagnose it properly. What I need: • Inspection and diagnosis on site • If it is the drive belt/tensioner/alternator related, I’d like to know if it can be repaired on site • If it can’t be repaired on site, I will tow it to a workshop myself to save costs Budget: $250 for inspection/initial repair if possible.
