A backyard mechanic that’s trusted in my old area put a new engine in my VE. It was then stored at my brothers house for a week before I got to road test it. It will start but the engine knocks really loud. The guy that did the work claims my brother looked at it saying the new engine has been blown up, says my brother must have driven it aggressively. It’s possible my brother is a fuckwit. But my brother swears he never drove the car and the mechanic is trying to fuck me over. I need to figure out firstly is the 2nd engine fucked. And if possible what is wrong with it and possibly what could have caused it. Can you help?? The car is stuck in Leichhardt at a friends house now. Spent 4K on that engine and having it fitted and a few other parts. I would love it back on the road. How much for a diagnostic

Hello, Basically I have 2 Toyota hiace vans (1995 commuter and a 1997 hiace) the 97 has a seized piston and the gearbox is questionable aswell as a couple of oil leaks is basically gone, the 1995 has 175,000kms but is in mechanically good condition as far as I know, What I’m looking for is to basically swop the whole engine from my 1995 to my 1997, I can offer my time to help to meet the cost down I repair electronics for a living so am speedy with changing any connectors if they are different have done it previously when I hadto change the wire harness on my 1995 years ago and the harness wasnt the right one so had I change a bunch of connectors anyways basically saying I can help and I’m not an idiot haha, if you have the space and time to get this done let me know how much, not sure whether it would be better to rebuild the gearbox other than move it from one van to the other? I’m also open to suggestions on the best way to tackle this problem is maybe the refurbishing the engine and gearbox in the 97 and sell the 1995 for whatever I can for it (it’s been in a minor crash and the rust is serious) just looking for the cheapest way to get a working van basecally, thanks
