Top Gate Installation related questions

A professional gate installer will ensure your gate is in perfect working order and has been installed correctly so that your home, pets, and family are secure. In the case of swimming pool gates, an experienced professional will ensure your gate complies with local pool safety laws.
Common gate installation locations include pool areas, front driveways, carports, back fences, vegetable gardens, and pet enclosures.
Your professional gate installer will help recommend the best gate for your situation and budget. While automatic gates tend to be more costly, they’re a popular option for front gates or driveways because you don’t have to get out of your car to open and close the gate.
Usually, your gate installation professional will bring their own tools and equipment and work with your existing parts, or help you order in parts for your gate.
Depending on the gate type (manual or automatic) and size, you can expect your gate installation to take anywhere from 1-5 hours.
On average, gate installation costs between $70 and $290, when you hire a contractor through Airtasker. The cost of your gate installation task will depend on whether it’s a full installation or repair, the type of material, the size of the gate, and where it’s being installed.

What does a gate installation service include?

You can get help with anything to do with gates, from gate selection and installation to repair and maintenance. Most gate installers are experienced with a range of fencing types, and can choose a gate to match your existing fence, or help install a fence alongside your gate.

Here are some of the most common types of gates and what you can expect with each service:

Automatic gates

Need automatic gates or electric gates installed or repaired? These are a popular option for driveways, with everything securely locked away and you don’t even have to get out of your car to open or close it. Your technician will have experience with these types of gates, including how to set up access so that your gate can open smoothly via a buzzer, remote, keypad, or intercom. They’ll measure the area and recommend the best gate type to fit, with the most suitable opening methods (swinging or sliding). Your gate installer can order in your gate materials, before installing everything onsite and showing you how to operate your new gate.

Swinging gates

Swinging gates are the most popular gate type because they’re simple to operate, with your gate suspended on a hinge, and held in place with a latch. Your gate installer will help recommend a gate style that will fit with your existing fence and other features, whether you need timber gates, aluminium gates, or even glass. They’ll order in the materials and assemble your gate onsite, ensuring its level and properly secured at the hinges. Finally, they’ll attach a latch at the correct height for easy opening and closing - with the option to padlock your gate for added security.

Sliding gates

Sliding gates are ideal for homes with limited space on either side of the gate, or for larger gates along driveways, where a swinging gate isn’t practical. Your gate installer will begin by measuring the area and recommending some suitable sliding gates to fit. They’ll order in the materials and begin by installing your footings and metal tracks for the gate to roll on. Next, they’ll put in place posts for your gate. Then they’ll insert wheels into the bottom of your gate and slide it onto the track and lock it into place. Sliding gates do need regular maintenance to ensure they’re clean and well lubricated, and you may need to book sliding gate repair if your gate stops working smoothly or gets damaged.

Pool gates

If you have a pool, you’ll need at least one or two gates for safe access to your pool area. Your pool gate installer will help you select a gate that matches your pool fence, whether glass or aluminium. They’ll install your gate between fence posts, ensuring it meets the regulations for your local area. Common regulations include self-closing and self-latching, latches at a minimum height, and only outwards-opening. If your pool gate doesn’t open or close properly, you’ll need to book pool gate repairs as soon as possible to ensure your pool is safe and compliant.

Need a pair of 4 metre high metal gates and their gate posts removed

Otago 9371, New Zealand

24th Mar 2022

We have a pair of 4 metre high metal entrance gates (extremely heavy i.e. manually unmovable), attached to gateposts. They need bringing down. Right gate’s lower hinge has rusted. It blew off its lower hinge 10 days ago, during extreme wind. We reckon the only way to get both gates down flat onto ground (without a crane) is to cut them up into 8 smaller pieces (with, say an axle-grinder). With regards removal off-site, we have storage space to keep the scrap metal, so no need to quote for removal. Alternatively, if you wish to take metal away & sell for scrap/keep for yourself, then you're welcome to do so, at your own expense. If you wish to organise a crane & truck to take away both gates entirely intact (i.e. not cut them up first), then we would just pay you the equivalent cost for simply cutting them up. We won’t pay for your crane & truck hire, and you get the gates to sell/use afterward as you wish. If you’re willing to take away the gates entirely for free, then we can also offer you the gateposts & the pair of pedestrian gates that come with them, as a package deal i.e. 2 main gates (1 damaged), 2 gate posts (1 damaged), 2 pedestrian gates (both undamaged). There are also 2 identical gate posts at the service entrance, should you wish. Click on this link to see photos: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yw7zxftm9mhidmb/AADKEl076uvivX-btmr6MIF-a?dl=0 Option A) If you just want to cut-up gates, quote for following: cost to cut-up 2 main gates into 8 sections cost to cut-up 2 main gateposts into 4 sections Option B) If you want to cut up gates & keep scrap metal yourself, quote for: cost to chop up both main large entrance gates into 8 sections Option C) If you want package deal i.e. handle all removal off-site yourself, gratis, then no need to quote for items 1) & 2) above. Just let us know what date you can remove in next 10 days. Weekends or after hours (between 1800H~2100H), ok. - Due date: Before Thursday, 31 March 2022
