Top Polished Plaster related questions

This can vary depending on the type of polished plaster used, and how many walls and ceilings the polished plaster must be applied to. Venetian plaster can take ten days on average due to the diligence required in the application and the drying time. Other types of polished plaster can take more or less time. You can consult your Tasker to better estimate the time it will take to complete your polished plaster.

Despite its luxurious appearance, Tadelakt plaster can be pretty easy to maintain. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners like bleach, and have a professional apply a new coat of wax once a year to keep it resistant against stains. To clean Tadelakt plaster, use a sponge and special soap like African black soap or olive oil soap once a week - it can’t be stressed enough not to use household cleaners!

Apart from taking your interior design to the next level, most types of polished plaster are highly durable. Moroccan plaster or Tadelakt is best for wet areas like your bathroom walls or kitchen backsplash, is waterproof, mould-proof, more flexible and less brittle than ordinary plaster, so it lasts for decades. Venetian plaster can mimic real marble, thus adding an unusual sheen and unique appearance to walls where real marble panels would be impractical or too costly.

Yes, you can! Make sure to mention this specifically in your post so you attract Taskers who know how to apply polished plaster on your floors. Do note that applying polished plaster to floors can take a lot of time, as this requires a delicate application of gradually thinning layers of consistent thickness. The process also needs long drying times of 1 to 3 days between applications and thorough cleaning to remove dirt and debris.

It’s a toss-up between Venetian plaster and Tadelakt plaster. Venetian plaster has the advantage of requiring only 2 to 3 layers to do the job, whilst Tadelakt plaster calls for 6 to 7 layers, then finished with a rubdown of a special oil-based soap. Tadelakt can be the more fussy option of the two, as you can’t use bleach or any chemical cleaners to clean it. However, both types of polished plaster can last for decades and look gorgeous.

Not only does polished plaster give your interiors greater aesthetic appeal, but it’s also highly durable and won’t chip, fade or peel off even after years of exposure to the sun or water. Polished plaster is easy to clean and maintain when you follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Most types of polished plaster are also eco-friendly, non-toxic, prevent mould and dust mites, so it’s also safe for anyone prone to allergies.

What do polished plaster services include?

Polished plaster services include all the activities necessary to apply polished plaster to your home’s interior walls, ceilings or even floors. This service can consist of preparing for the installation by taking measurements, cleaning surfaces, coating surfaces with primer, then finishing up with a special wax if necessary.

Assessing the site

Your Tasker begins by inspecting the site and taking measurements of the surfaces for plastering. They can use the measurements to help determine how much of your chosen polished plaster they need. If you don’t have the plaster ready, some Taskers may buy these and other materials for you upon request.

Preparing the site

One of the most common types of polished plaster is Venetian plaster or marble plaster, and this requires a clean, smooth surface that’s coated with the appropriate primer. Your Tasker can ensure that the surfaces clean, and they can cover any light switches or fixtures before applying the primer.

If your polished plaster is Tadelakt plaster, a.k.a. Moroccan plaster, this will require installing a waterproof substrate.

Your Tasker can install this upon request, although you may have to hire a separate carpentry service if the substrate installation is more complex.

Note that before any of these decorative plasterings are applied, you may want to have your electrical wiring finished and make sure you don’t have any leaky pipes to save on time and costs.

Mixing the polished plaster

Once the site is prepared, your Tasker can mix the polished plaster. Your Tasker can combine the plaster components as recommended by the manufacturer, whether it’s Venetian, Moroccan or stucco plaster, and ensure the plaster is of the right consistency.

They can mix in fibreglass fibres, marble chips, colourant or any material required to get the colour and texture you want.

Applying the polished plaster

Your Tasker can then apply the polished plaster to your ceilings, floors or walls. Depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations and industry best practices, they may apply 2 to 3 layers or more plaster. Using the appropriate tools and techniques, your Tasker can apply the polished plaster in the proper thickness.

Note that each plaster layer may need to dry for 24 to 48 hours between applications. Your Tasker can repeat this process until all the required layers are correctly applied.

Applying the wax

When appropriate and as soon as the final layer of polished plaster is dry, your Tasker can prepare and apply the sealing wax. To ensure complete and consistent absorption, they may apply several layers of wax.

Once enough wax has been absorbed, your Tasker can use a non-woven fabric cloth to remove any excess wax. If you want, you can hire a professional to add a layer of paint after the wax.
