I'm looking for a qualified solicitor practising in Western Australia for an initial legal consultation regarding a consumer/contract dispute involving my mother. My mother has a cognitive disability and receives the Disability Support Pension. She was sold an expensive property-management course with ongoing repayments and can't afford it on her pension. At this stage, I am not looking to commence proceedings or retain a lawyer for the full matter. I would first like a short consultation to explain the circumstances and get an informed view of: - whether there may be grounds to challenge or set aside the agreement; - contractual capacity and how my mother's cognitive disability may be relevant; - possible unconscionable conduct or other Australian Consumer Law issues; - what evidence and documentation we should preserve; - what the appropriate next step would be if there appears to be a viable claim. Preferred arrangement: - Remote consultation only. - Email is strongly preferred. I work FIFO, have little availability during work hours for appointments, and want to resolve this quickly. - A phone consultation is also fine if preferred, but my availability will be restricted to off swings or late hours after 6 pm. - Budget: $300 total, whether you charge hourly or a fixed fee. I expect the initial consultation should take no more than approximately one hour, but I am not familiar with legal fees. - Email correspondence can begin from Monday, 14 September 2026 onwards. - If a phone consultation is preferred, I am ideally available on 14 September, or between 23–28 September 2026. My situation is a little more complicated because I had two different sources of income during the financial year: * I worked as an employee in sales for part of the financial year. * Around October 2025, I transitioned into running my own personal training business as a contractor/sole trader. * I now receive income directly through my personal training business and have business-related expenses that need to be correctly accounted for. * I have my sales income statement/payment summary information, business income records, and expense information available. * I have not previously lodged the business income separately, so I need someone to make sure everything is correctly included in my individual tax return. * I’m an Australian tax resident and have no spouse. I’m looking for an accountant to assist with a limited-scope retrospective review of my company accounts from FY22 to current. I’ve updated the P&L in QBO and drafted the BAS returns, and it looks about right, but I’m not 100% sure. Will need to speak to the ATO to get an extension. The company has had multiple small activities running through it, although it has low revenue, and I’m seeking a practical tidy-up and correction rather than broad advisory work. Specifically, I’m looking for help with: - PSI contractor income and allowable deductions - Correct approach with company share trading activity (balance sheet vs P&L treatment, net gains/losses) - Approach towards my small online business income, expenses, and losses to ensure correct accounting and tax treatment - Review and advise of Personal Services Income (PSI) approach - Any missed or incorrectly classified deductions - Examination of financial statements and general ledger transactions - Assess for relevant small business tax concessions, including the Instant Asset Write-Off. - Liaising with the ATO regarding extension of submission date, payment plan and remission of fees/penalties - Lodging final returns and BASs I am not seeking restructuring, R&D, or high-level tax strategy at this stage, just an accurate reclassification, review and submission of outstanding years to ensure the taxable position is correct. I’m looking to minimize the tax obligation and to get a deal around ATO fees, as I understand I can request to have these removed. Ideally you'll manage this with the ATO.
