We are looking for an experienced architect or building designer to help us develop plans for a home extension. We have a very rough concept of how we think the extension could work with our existing home (attached – yellow shows our proposed extension), but before committing to formal plans, we’d really value professional advice to make sure we are making the best use of the space. My husband is a builder and will be undertaking the construction himself, so we have the construction side covered. What we need help with is the design, layout, flow, functionality and making sure we’re not missing a better solution. We are not simply looking for someone to redraw our sketch. We’d like someone who can look at the existing house and proposed extension as a whole, challenge our ideas where appropriate and help us develop the best possible layout. Ideally, we’re looking for someone who can: • Review our existing floor plan, measurements and rough concepts • Advise on layout, flow, functionality, light and integration with the existing home • Identify opportunities or issues we may not have considered • Develop an initial concept/floor plan • Advise us on the process and what needs to happen next • Ideally continue with us through site surveys, soil testing, engineering and council/building approval plans, elevations and final documentation The pool has already been quoted and will be handled through a separate council application. We have two young children and are rapidly outgrowing our current home, so we’re keen to get started as soon as possible. We’re happy to provide our sketches, measurements, reference images and property details to help explain what we have in mind. If you’re an architect or building designer experienced in residential extensions and can help us turn a rough concept into a well-designed, approval-ready plan, we’d love to hear from you. Please include quote for this initial review/drawing plus quote for the next stages.
