Top Venetian Blind Repair related questions

Most Venetian blind problems are minor so they’re cost-effective to repair. If your blinds are broken in multiple places, it could be more cost-effective to do a replacement instead.

Venetian blinds are prone to broken or fraying cords and broken or bent slats. The tilting mechanism and bracket may also deteriorate over time.

Most Venetian blind repairs involve dismantling part of the blinds and replacing the broken part.
Some brands come with a warranty which will indicate how long you can expect your blinds to last. But most good quality Venetian blinds are designed to last up to a decade before they need replacing.

To protect your Venetian blinds, keep them well maintained by removing dust regularly. Aside from blind cleaning, it’s always best to organise repairs as soon as you notice an issue so you can minimise damage.

Venetian blind repair usually costs around $60-$150 when you book your service on Airtasker. But the price will depend on the number of blinds, the repairs needed, and how long it’ll take to get the job done.

What does a Venetian blind repair service include?

There are a number of issues that Venetian blinds are prone to - from bracket problems, cord breakage, tangling, slats, and sizing problems. Your blind repair person will assess the problem and recommend the best solution, whether replacing a part of making some adjustments. Here are some of the most common problems and solutions:

Venetian blind cord repair and replacement

Venetian blinds cord repairs can range from totally replacing the string to make a simple adjustment so it can pull smoothly again. If the string is broken, your technician will source a suitable replacement string. They’ll remove the caps and pull out the old cord, using this to measure and cut the new cord before restringing your blinds and testing them. If the cord was broken or frayed, they’ll also be sure to check for any sharp edges that might wear down the cord and ensure these are covered, sanded back, or replaced. If the blind isn’t staying up even though you’ve locked it in place, your Venetian blind repairer may need to replace the lock or reactivate your tension device. Or if your blind isn’t raising evenly or easily, it’s likely an issue with the lifting strings, so your repairer will replace these.

Slat replacement

If your slats are bent, warped, or broken, they’ll need replacing. Your blind repairer will take the plugs off the bottom rail and undo the knots before pulling the string through to the damaged slat. They’ll remote this slat and slide on the replacement piece before rethreading the cord back through each hole. Finally, they’ll re-tie the knot and replace the plugs.

Remounting or adjusting
If your Venetian blinds are hitting something or fall out of the box brackets, they might need readjusting. Your repairer will remount your brackets so they’re the right distance apart and so that your blinds have enough clearance from obstacles. Or if you want to move your blinds to another window, your technician will be able to help. They’ll unscrew the mounting brackets and re-attach them to your new window frame - either inside the recess or above - depending on your preferences.

Venetian blind trimming

Maybe you’ve bought some new Venetian blinds that you need to be installed but they’re not quite the right fit? You can get your blinds trimmed to fit your window size or your technician can install the blinds so they sit in front of the window frame, rather than inside of it.

Blind tilter replacement

If your tilt mechanism isn’t working anymore, your Venetian blind repairer will be able to fix it. If the slats don’t tilt, the gear mechanism has failed and they’ll replace it. Or if the tilt wand is stiff, they may either replace the gear mechanism or switch it to a cord for easier adjusting.
