Top Wood Fencing related questions

Sure, for as long as you have the materials, tools, and skills. You should also know precisely how to put up a wood fence that complies with state laws and your council’s regulations. If you are unsure how to build a proper fence, don’t risk the hassle of fines and penalties should your wood fencing fail to comply - hire an expert on our platform instead.

That depends on the wood and if the fence had a protective sealant applied. The most durable woods for wood fencing are spruce, cedar, and pine. You may be surprised to discover that untreated cedar can last from 15 to 30 years, and 40 years if treated. Pine can last ten years untreated, and 20 years with sealant. Spruce is the least durable, lasting only five years without sealant but can last for as long as 20 years if treated.

Yes, it’s possible to have fences that don’t need holes to drive posts into, and these are called free-standing fences. Most free-standing fences are prefabricated and made of less durable materials like PVC. While the effort of assembly and placement are minimal, they’re often too low to provide any security or privacy. You should also check with your state’s laws and council rules if they allow free-standing fences.

A good fence that provides security, privacy and looks modern can add 10 to 20% to your property’s value - this is regardless of the material used to make the fence. If you plan to put your property on the market, remember that a home with a fence appeals most to families and pet owners. A poorly designed or poorly-made fence can’t harm your property’s value, but it adds no value either.

That depends on your budget, the maintenance you’re willing to do and your personal preference. Staining the panels and posts of your wood fence shows off the wood grain, whereas paint dramatically changes how a fence looks. Staining is easier since you can always add more staining to the wood, while paint requires sanding off the old paint before applying a fresh coat.

You can protect your wood fencing against termites with an oil-based stain or apply an oil-based primer followed by a termite-resistant paint. Some maintenance around your backyard is necessary; remove any old, rotten stumps close to your fence and store firewood a few metres away from your fence. You should also clear away any sources of moisture and inspect each section of your fence regularly for termites.

What do wood fencing services include?

Wood fencing services include all the activities necessary to install a timber fence on your property. Your hired wood fencing builder can ensure that it is functional, aesthetically pleasing and complies with rules and regulations on fencing. This service can include taking the necessary measurements, procuring materials to put up the fence, assembling the fence and applying finishing touches.

Taking measurements

Your wood fence installation begins by discussing the size and location of your wood fence with your hired Tasker. After you specify your needs and where you want the wood fence, your hired wood fence builder takes all the necessary measurements. They can place your wood fence anywhere on your property, as long as its placement complies with rules set by your state and your local council.

Procuring materials for wood fencing

Upon request, some Taskers can get all the needed materials for constructing and installing your timber fence, from the type of wood fence panels you need to the sealants needed for the job. They can put up a fence in the style you want and get all the posts, timber frame and timber panels.

Your hired Tasker can also cut any parts of the timber fence down to size if necessary. If your hired builder has to cut timber on-site, you may want to hire a separate service to clean up.

Installing the posts and assembling the panels

Your hired builder can dig holes in your backyard to install the posts for the wood fence. They can ensure that the holes are deep enough and are uniform in depth before burying the posts. Before burying the posts, your Tasker can ensure that the posts are level and of equal length. Once they're placed in the holes, they apply a partial filling of concrete to each hole

Assembling and attaching the panel sections

Your Tasker can assemble sections of wood panels as the concrete dries. They can ensure that each panel is cut uniformly and at the right length, then assemble the panels into sections. Once the concrete is dry, your Tasker attaches fasteners on the top and bottom of each post. They then attach each panel section to the posts.

Finishing touches

Your Tasker can install fascia boards on the outer sections of the wood fence and caps on each post. Upon request, some Taskers can apply a protective sealant to prevent moisture damage and repel pests.

You can also hire a separate service to paint your newly installed fence in a colour that matches your home. While you’re upgrading your backyard, why not get someone to beautify what’s behind your wood fence as well?
