When you work with a professional, you get better quality photos, better poses, and angles that best show your clothing and accessories. Better photos mean more clicks from potential buyers and hopefully more sales.
There are four main genres of fashion photography: high fashion, editorial, catalogue, and street fashion. Each genre has a different shooting style to suit the fashion and format.
Make sure you’ve prepared your brief and (if needed) have a team on hand to assist with styling, makeup, and more. Get the clothing and accessories ready ahead of time, so they’re ready to wear on the day.
Ideally, have a fashion stylist on hand to get all the clothing ready and styled. But before the shoot, make sure that clothing is crease-free and stored in hanging garment bags so it stays clean and smooth.
One photo can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to half an hour or more to edit, so the more photos you need, the longer it’ll take. However, for most photoshoots, you’ll get your photos back within a week or so.
The average cost of fashion photography on Airtasker is $87-250. But this could vary, depending on the length of the shoot, the shoot location, how much prep work and planning is involved, and the number of photos taken and edited.

What does a fashion photography services include?

A fashion photoshoot is different from other types of photoshoots in that it takes a collaborative effort to pull off. The person with the camera is responsible for making sure that the photos come to life while showing off all the best qualities of the garments that the model is wearing. Here’s what you can generally expect from a standard fashion photoshoot:

Briefing

Your fashion photography professional will first request a brief to help them understand your vision and prepare ahead of time. They may also provide some input to contribute to the idea or concept, based on their experience from previous shoots. They’ll ask you about the products, location, mood, lighting, aesthetic, styling, model(s), hair, and make-up.

Mood board

After the brief is done, your fashion photography expert may work with you to create a mood board. Pinterest is a popular place to create mood boards, by using a shared secret board, where you can add visual references to accompany the brief. You can both use the mood board to share creative ideas, examples, and poses that you’ll be able to use as a reference later on.

Equipment prep

Depending on the shoot location and time of day (sunrise, noon, dusk, or night), your photography professional may decide to bring some specialised equipment along. This may include one or two DSLR camera bodies, zoom lens, wide-angle lens, telephoto zoom lens, Speedlite with batteries, reflectors, tripods, camera batteries, chargers, and memory cards.

Photoshooting

Next, they’ll work with your team of makeup artists, stylists, and models at the shoot location. Your fashion photography professional will first set up their equipment on-site, choosing their camera and lens, while the models get ready with makeup and clothes. Once everyone is ready to begin the shoot, they’ll work with the brief and mood board, taking as many photos as needed until they have the perfect shots. Fashion photoshoots typically take a few hours, but this will depend on the location, type of photos, and how many outfits you need to be photographed.

Editing photos

Once all the photos have been taken, each photo is edited and polished. Bad shots will be removed and the good shots are put together into a gallery. To edit the photos, your fashion photography expert may adjust the RGB ratios, contrast, colour saturation, focus, and other minor details. They may also add a filter to keep all the photos looking consistent (popular for Instagram feed photos). The photo editing process may take a few days, but by the time they’re done, you’ll have a collection of images you can use to promote your clothing line or accessories on social media, your website, and any other marketing materials.
