Top Hair Stylist related questions

What qualities should I look for in a hairstylist?

Aside from their strong portfolio and recommendations, a hairstylist should have excellent communication skills, great attention to detail, creativity, and friendliness. These qualities allow them to have a good relationship with you as their client. You want someone you can trust not only because of their skills but also with their attitude.

How long does a visit to a hairstylist take?

It depends on what service you want to be done to your hair, your current hair length, volume, and texture. A simple touch-up or haircut and trimming typically takes 30 minutes to an hour and a half. But if you're planning to get more complex service such as hair colouring or a perm, it may take at least two to four hours to finish.

How frequent should I visit a hairstylist?

It depends on the length of your hair and how fast it grows, but it's best to visit your hairstylist every eight weeks for a trim and regular hair checkup. Frequent trips to a hairstylist ensure that they can keep your hair as fresh as possible by treating it according to its needs.

How should I prepare for my hairstylist appointment?

You can choose to wash and detangle your hair before going to the salon. You can also let your stylist know how often you style your hair and its complete history so that they would know what products to use and avoid any potential damage. Bring pegs and photos of the hairstyle you want, but manage your expectations. You can even ask if the hairstyle you like suits you, and your stylist can provide suggestions, as well.

What do hair styling services include?

Whether you need to get your hair done for an event, or you simply want to switch things up on your crowning glory, our hairstylist services got you covered! You may want to get a wedding hairstylist for you to look phenomenal in your wedding photos, or wish to have your hair done because you're a photographer's model. Whatever the purpose, we're here to help! Here's what you can expect when you book a hairstylist near you:

Haircut and trimming

Getting a haircut and a trim is an essential part of your hair care regimen. Once your previous cut loses its shape or becomes way too long, and you want to maintain its shape and length, you can ask your hairstylist to give you a maintenance cut. Get a trim when you see dry or split ends, or if the ends are appearing lighter in colour than the rest of your hair.

Hair colouring

There's more to hair colouring than self-expression and aesthetic reasons. Contrary to popular belief, colouring your hair is not that damaging at all, especially when you use the right products. Hair dye ingredients have improved significantly, thanks to new technologies and formulas. It can seal down the cuticle for healthier looking hair, making it appear fuller with a fresh colour. Your hairstylist can give you suggestions on which shade suits your hair type and skin tone, so you can get that 'do you've always wanted!

Getting a professional blow-dry is ideal after having your hair coloured or cut. It's also great if you just want your hair to feel fresh for a night out. Blow-drying styles can help style your hair in place and make it more voluminous. You can get all these benefits if you use the right equipment and intensity to get the look that you are going for. Tell your hairstylist precisely what you want, and they can make it happen for you!

Hair perm

Have you wanted glorious curls all your life? Getting a hair perm would make that dream come true! It makes your hair look fuller, livelier, and reduces the need to style your hair from time to time. However, a perm can cause serious damage to your hair if done incorrectly, so it's best to have it done by a knowledgeable hairstylist. You can discuss with them the current condition of your hair and disclose a detailed account of your hair treatment history. Doing so can determine the success of the procedure, especially if you want to achieve those bouncy curls!

Freelance Hair Stylist | Kids

Kamo, Whangarei, New Zealand

Interested in hiring a personal freelance hair stylist for my 2 and half year old son. About you: - Professional hair-stylist with qualification or learning - Freelancer/second or third job - Patient and love children - Can handle a challenge - Relatable His hair grows long and fast (as it runs in his genes) thus requires monthly maintenance cuts. One problem is ... he HATES when I touch his hair. He's a sensitive little dude meaning instead of continuing to use public salons - I'd prefer to hire someone myself. Great news is we can work together (as I run my business remotely) which means I can assist you when needed and vice-versa. I'm looking for someone long-term; So he'd need to be comfortable with you - so if you love children, reach out to me! You'd come to our private address to cut his hair, and you'll be paid a fixed fee every time. Building a good client/relationship is imperative - meaning it would be better if we related to one another. If you'd be interest, I'm currently living in Northland so please reach out to me. Warm regards, Cee
