Top Washing Machine Repairs & Installation related questions

While most machines come with installation instructions, if you’re short on time or you’re not confident with installing a washing machine, you can hire a technician to help. They’ll level your machine, plug it in, set up the drainage hose and water supply, and check that it’s working.

Yes. Just as you’d service your car, your washing machine needs regular maintenance. Regular servicing and checks keep your machine running smoothly so it lasts longer, cleans better, and you catch any problems early on.

You might be able to do some basic washing machine repairs yourself if you’ve got the tools on hand and you understand the mechanics. But a washing machine repair professional will be able to quickly diagnose any issues (even complex ones), get the parts, and fix your machine much faster.

Most of the time, it’ll be cheaper and simpler to get your washing machine repaired. But if certain parts of your machine break (like the tub or tub seal), it may be more cost effective to get a new machine. Your technician will advise you on the best course of action once they determine the what’s causing your problem.

Common washing machine problems include drainage issues, seal issues, problems with the door lock, the machine stopping mid-cycle, a funky smell, tripping the power, or too much shaking or movement during a cycle.

Washing machine repair costs on Airtasker usually range from $50-$120. The cost will depend on what needs fixing, how complex it’ll be, and how long the job is likely to take.

For certain types of tasks, you may need someone who has a specialist licence and also additional insurance. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant licence and insurance before accepting an offer.

What does a washing machine repair include?

From faulty wiring to mechanical issues, a washing machine repairer will be able to help you get your machine back in working order. Depending on your needs, your service may include:

Washing machine assessment

If there’s something wrong with your washing machine, it’s important to switch it off immediately and call in an expert. An experienced technician will check over your machine to diagnose and repair any faults. They’ll look at details like whether your washing machine is stopping mid-cycle, whether it’s draining properly, and whether it’s spinning normally. Then they’ll recommend the best course of action to repair your machine.

Washing machine repairs

Washing machine repairs vary depending on the problems identified in your assessment. Some common repairs include washing machine levelling (if the machine grows legs during a spin cycle), unclogging a blockage, electrical issues, door replacement, seal replacement, filter replacement, new hoses, and even smell issues. Your technician will use their tools to pull apart the machine, replace the parts needed, and put it back together. They’ll run a short cycle to check that everything’s working properly before they finish up the job.

Washing machine installation

If your washing machine repairs work out to be too complex or costly, your technician will recommend a new machine. You can ask your technician to help you install your washing machine properly. They’ll hook up the drain and supply lines, take care of the wiring, level your machine, and make sure it’s working.

Washing machine maintenance

Keep your washing machine is perfect running order, increase its lifespan, and maintain optimal hygiene with regular maintenance. You can catch potential issues early if you get a professional in every year or so to service your appliance. Washing machine maintenance can include things like replacing water hoses, levelling your washing machine, detail cleaning the machine, and checking it’s being used correctly.

Need a wooden base (like a pallet style) to lift my washing machine.

$150

Morningside, Auckland, New Zealand

12th Oct 2021

The issue is that we have purchased a washing machine and it doesn't fit under the stairs. We are just dealing with a confined space. If we can lift the washing machine over the water taps it can fit in the small room. If not it sticks out the door. If we can sit the washing machine just above the taps then it will fit but it can´t be too high or the hose won´t reach the taps. As well it needs to be wide enough that if the washing machine moves around it can´t fall off the pallet. I have also included a slight 3cm cut off at the front left. This is just because the metal door hinge is there and might catch the pallet. Our water taps are almost 9cm high. So the free space in the middle of the pallet needs to be able sit over them. For the type of pallet - I am thinking: 1. something with just two legs on the outside as the taps will be in the middle of the space underneath. 2. A flat top so the washing machine doesn´t fall between boards e.g. plywood but if that is not possible a pallet that has the boards very close together should do the job. Just not the ones with the big gaps.
