27 February 2024, London: During a challenging 2023 where the UK economy was marked with high inflation and a lingering cost of living crisis, Brits turned to the skills economy to manage their budgets and earn extra cash. Today, for the third year running, Airtasker, the local services marketplace, announces the winners of the Top Tasker Awards 2023.

The awards celebrate the skilled people from in and around London, who went above and beyond to deliver outstanding service to the community. The growing, diverse and skilled Airtasker community has grown by 79% in the past 12 months, with Brits eager to boost their income by monetizing their skills and managing their money.

This year’s Airtasker Top Taskers include Liam, a carpenter who can earn up to £6,000 a month, Paul, who has earnt over £30,000 on the platform building log cabins and summer houses, Taj, a decorator/handyman, who earnt £7,000 in just three weeks, Leonie, whose exceptional concierge of services from cleaning to tennis coaching has earnt her over £28,000 and Jay, whose upholstery skills have earnt him over £10,000 from his side hustle.

Airtasker has allowed Brits, juggling a difficult economic climate, to continue to get the jobs they need doing, at their own budget by tapping into the local community. As well as serving as a place for people to leverage their skills to earn extra money.

Brits most productive month in 2023 was May, which had the most posted tasks to the app, followed by June, as people booked more handypersons, cleaners, removalists, gardeners and furniture assembly experts than any other month.

As we headed towards Christmas, December saw the highest amount of registrations, as people were driven to earn some extra cash and get tasks done during the busy festive period.

‘Building Sheds in My Spare Time Has Earnt Me Over £30K’

Paul Prebble, 36, Maidstone

Paul is a father of two, who has always been a more practical, hands-on type, rather than academic, has always enjoyed building and being outdoors. He used to work in railway construction and on weekends would build sheds for people in his spare time which grew his skills.

Airtasker is now Paul’s main source of income, earning at least £500 a week assembling sheds, summer houses, outbuilding and log cabins. The tasks can take anywhere from 4 hours to two days depending on the size and technicality. One task alone earnt him £550!

Taj Singh, 27, Islington 

Father of three, Taj, 3 kids, was struggling to manage his time having three jobs and balancing spending time with children, so he decided he needed a job with more flexibility. 

When he was 16, he had a job delivering flatpack furniture. One day someone asked him to build it for them and he started making some extra cash.
