For car services tasks, you may need to enquire as to what specialist licenses may be required to undertake your task as this can vary. Please make sure that you confirm that a Tasker has the relevant licence and insurance before accepting an offer.

As a rule of thumb, most cars need a minor service every 6 months (10,000km) and a major service every 12 months (20,000km), but it depends on the manufacturer’s recommendations. Your service schedule will generally alternate between a minor and major service.

When you hire a mobile car service near you, it’s often more affordable than heading into a local dealership or garage. And it’s a whole lot more convenient because an experienced mechanic comes to you.

A standard car service doesn’t include any additional repair or maintenance work. If your car needs any extra services, these will be billed separately and may need an additional booking.

A minor car service includes a basic check of the key components in a car, whereas a major service includes a comprehensive vehicle check on all the components in a car. Both services are crucial in prolonging your car’s lifespan and ensuring your car runs smoothly.

A minor service can take 1-2 hours to complete, whereas a major service can take up to 3 hours. If you need any parts replaced or repaired, it may take longer.

Generally, the cost of a car service ranges from $90-$200 when you book a mechanic through Airtasker. The cost will depend on whether you need a major or minor service, the make and model of your car, your location, and any additional parts/repairs needed.

What does a car service include?

As a general rule, your car will likely need to be serviced every 6-12 months, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations. The exact inclusions of your car service and mobile car service will vary depending on how much work is needed on your car. Some of the popular car services you can book on Airtasker include:

Oil and oil filter change

An oil and oil filter change will help your car run smoothly and increase fuel efficiency. It’s one of the most important parts of a service and should be included in both minor and major services. Your mechanic will find the oil drain plug, loosen and unscrew it, and carefully allow the old oil to drain into a pan. Then they’ll replace and tighten the plug before removing and replacing the filter. Finally, they’ll fill up with fresh oil up to the “full” mark on the dipstick.

Car minor service

A minor service is also known as an interim or basic service. It focuses on changing and topping up fluids and inspecting a number of components for wear and tear. A minor service includes an oil and filter change; an under-body and under-bonnet inspection; a top-up of all key fluids in the engine, including washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze, and steering fluid; and a check of up to 35 key components, such as lights, tyres, and brakes. Most mechanics will also check the manufacturer guidelines and recommend any additional work your car may need.

Car major service

A major service includes all the basic services described above, but will also include an inspection of an additional 15-30 car components to ensure that your vehicle is in the best condition possible. These components can include wheel bearings, shock absorbers, and the air conditioning system. Any parts that need extra work or replacement, such as car batteries or windscreens, will be billed as extra.

Model-specific services

If you’re enthusiastic about cars, it might be a good idea to book a mechanic who specialises in your car’s make and model. You can book in a car service with a mechanic who specialises in BMW Servicing, Ford Servicing, Holden Servicing, Honda Servicing, Hyundai Servicing, Mazda Servicing, Mercedes Benz Servicing, Nissan Servicing, Peugeot Servicing, Subaru Servicing, Toyota Servicing, and Volkswagen Servicing. They’ll be familiar with the common issues that are likely to come up and will have specific parts available on-hand in case you need a replacement or repair.
