What does a gate installation service include?

You can get help with anything to do with gates, from gate selection and installation to repair and maintenance. Most gate installers are experienced with a range of fencing types, and can choose a gate to match your existing fence, or help install a fence alongside your gate.

Here are some of the most common types of gates and what you can expect with each service:

Automatic gates

Need automatic gates or electric gates installed or repaired? These are a popular option for driveways, with everything securely locked away and you don’t even have to get out of your car to open or close it. Your technician will have experience with automatic gate openers, including how to set up access so that your gate can open smoothly via a buzzer, remote, keypad, or intercom. They’ll measure the area and recommend the best gate type to fit, with the most suitable opening methods (swinging or sliding). Your gate installer can order in your gate materials, before installing everything onsite and showing you how to operate your new gate.

Swinging gates

Swinging gates are the most popular gate type because they’re simple to operate, with your gate suspended on a hinge, and held in place with a latch. Your gate installer will help recommend a gate style that will fit with your existing fence and other features, whether you need timber gates, aluminium gates, or even glass. They’ll order in the materials and assemble your gate onsite, ensuring its level and properly secured at the hinges. Finally, they’ll attach a latch at the correct height for easy opening and closing - with the option to padlock your gate for added security.

Sliding gates

Sliding gates are ideal for homes with limited space on either side of the gate, or for larger gates along driveways, where a swinging gate isn’t practical. Your gate installer will begin by measuring the area and recommending some suitable sliding gates to fit. They’ll order in the materials and begin by installing your footings and metal tracks for the gate to roll on. Next, they’ll put in place posts for your gate. Then they’ll insert wheels into the bottom of your gate and slide it onto the track and lock it into place. Sliding gates do need regular maintenance to ensure they’re clean and well lubricated, and you may need to book sliding gate repair if your gate stops working smoothly or gets damaged.

Pool gates

If you have a pool, you’ll need at least one or two gates for safe access to your pool area. Your pool gate installer will help you select a gate that matches your pool fence, whether glass or aluminium. They’ll install your gate between fence posts, ensuring it meets the regulations for your local area. Common regulations include self-closing and self-latching, latches at a minimum height, and only outwards-opening. If your pool gate doesn’t open or close properly, you’ll need to book pool gate repairs as soon as possible to ensure your pool is safe and compliant.
