20 Hallway storage ideas

Hallways have the most foot traffic in the home, making keeping it free of clutter important. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it for storage space. There are many clever ways to incorporate space-saving storage.

Not sure where to start? Here are a few things you can include.

Furniture

The most obvious solution when it comes to storage is furniture! If you don’t have much space in your hallway, then loads of narrow furniture options will work.

Storage Baskets

Storage baskets are a great and inexpensive way of adding storage to your space. They can be placed as stand-alone decor pieces or nestled underneath a console table.

Hooks

Hooks are a great way of adding storage to your hallway area without using any floor space. Hooks can hang your coats, scarves, bags, hats, and anything else.

These storage ideas prove that a hallway doesn’t have to be a place with no purpose.

1. Structured baskets

A great way to add storage into your space without shelling out too much is by adding structured baskets. It’s great for holding guests’ bags, extra clutter, or even extra blankets for chilly days.

2. Woven baskets

Looking to bring more texture into a space? Woven baskets are the perfect option as they can store shoes and even spare throw blankets in storage baskets.

3. Shelf and hooks

How’s this for an innovative storage solution? A wall attachment with hooks and a shelf is great for displaying unique pieces or keeping bags and hats without occupying too much floor space.

4. Floating storage

Want a more artistic way to display knickknacks and hide away a miscellany of things? Opt for a floating shelf. Plus points if you display fresh greens for that added pop of colour!

5. Catch-all tray

As well as smart cabinetry, you can also use decor pieces that double as storage. Perhaps you have a trinket dish or a cool bowl to add to your decor that can be used as a catch-all tray for keys, coins, and other small items you need regularly.

6. Hidden storage

If you have a hallway space next to your staircase, this is a great way to make the most of the space. Incorporating built-in storage under the stairs means less furniture to put out and occupy narrow hallways.

7. Mirror and console combo

Going for a minimalist aesthetic? Working with a mirror and console combo is great for opening up the space and keeping a mix of small items tucked away safely.

8. Wall hooks

Don’t want to make too many changes to your space? Adding wall hooks can make all the difference. Hang bags, coats, hats, and anything else you can think of. Maybe even an artsy frame.

9. Built-in shelf storage

Short on space? Maximise your stairs by adding a built-in shelving system.

10. Bench seat and cubby system

Want to make a fully functional storage system? Add a bench seat and cubby system to store everything from shoes, bags, coats, and hats. You can turn it into a mudroom if you have the space!

11. Minimalist cabinet

Play up a simple cabinet by adding artful pieces or hanging up framed artwork. It makes your cabinet blend seamlessly into the space.

12. Upcycled storage

Have a storage chest lying around? Turn it into a hallway bench. It’s a great way to keep your family’s memorabilia accessible.

13. Simple hallway bench

Bringing in a hallway bench adds extra seating and is the perfect spot to tuck any baskets out of the way.

14. Welcome corner

Nothing says welcome like a complete hallway entrance catch-all. Add a coat rack and console to hold your and your guest’s essentials.

15. Wrap-around table

Looking for a unique way to extend the standard console? Create a wrap-around table, especially for those unusual corner hallways.

16. Make it a mudroom

Want to add a bigger storage unit? Take the opportunity to make it a mudroom. If you have a hallway next to your entrance, the storage next to your door could become a mudroom area for when you take your muddy gear off after all your many adventures.

17. Console and basket storage

Only have a console to catch things as you enter the home? Bring in some extra baskets and house them underneath for extra storage.

18. Narrow cabinetry

Narrow cabinets are the perfect addition to hallways with limited space. Use it to store shoes, bags, and anything you need.

19. Corner shelves

Want a little pop of colour in plain white hallways? Add shelves into hallway corners to display some of your favourite things.

20. Hallway storage bench

Need extra seating without sacrificing storage space? Turn a storage cabinet into a bench by adding cushions and some pillows.
