Spring has arrived, and so has Australia’s busiest stretch of the wedding season. As couples get ready to walk down the aisle, that seasonal rush is already showing up on Airtasker.
In August 2026, wedding-related hospitality services were up 44% year-over-year, while beauty services rose 65%, according to Airtasker data. We dug deeper to see what couples are booking most and where Taskers can find opportunities this wedding season.
Spring is the peak wedding season on Airtasker
Historically, demand for wedding-related services on Airtasker begins picking up in July and August before reaching its strongest levels in spring. Summer is another busy period, which means the need for extra hands doesn’t disappear once the spring rush is over.
October was the strongest month in spring for wedding help every year from 2022 to 2025. This aligns with Australia’s broader wedding calendar, with October 25th being the most popular date to marry in 2025, according to Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data.
January stands out as another peak month for wedding help, likely driven by newly engaged couples from the holiday season moving straight into planning. Others may use this time to secure help in advance for autumn weddings, which is another high-demand season on the ABS calendar.
For couples, these trends highlight the importance of booking early for specialist services during peak periods. Meanwhile, Taskers can use the same trends to anticipate where demand is building and plan availability.
What couples are booking most
While wedding season drives demand across a range of services, some are more closely tied to the big day than others. Based on task volume, here are the services seeing the strongest activity on Airtasker:
Photography and videography
Much of wedding-related demand is concentrated in photography and videography, reflecting how important it is for couples to capture their special day. While wedding photos remain the most common deliverable, almost one in five tasks asks for both photo and video.
Requests for bundled wedding photos and videos grew 9.5% year-over-year from January to August 2026, suggesting a preference for a more complete record of the day.
Sewing and clothing repairs
Demand for wedding-related sewing and clothing repair grew 5% year-over-year from January to August 2026. Bridal gowns were the most commonly mentioned type of attire, followed by bridesmaid dresses and suits or tuxedos.
Looking more closely at gown-related requests, brides-to-be were booking Taskers for both alterations and custom-made dresses. Alterations had a slight edge in both 2025 and 2026, making up 36% of gown tasks in 2025 and 37% in 2026, compared with 30% and 31% for custom-made gowns.
Hospitality services
Meanwhile, wedding-related hospitality services grew strongly, up 42% year-over-year. Couples are increasingly turning to Airtasker for wedding staffing and food and beverage (F&B) help, needing assistance with event setup, catering, dishwashing, and more.
Recent wedding hospitality-related tasks posted on Airtasker include:
- Breakfast and lunch catering for the bridal party and parents
- Waitstaff services for a wedding dinner party at Haberfield
- Wedding floor manager for a 100- to 200-guest wedding reception
- Event assistant to help with a small Nikah (Islamic marriage ceremony)
Requests for assistant or general help also suggest demand for flexible support, particularly for smaller-scale or budget-conscious weddings.
Where couples are booking wedding help
So, where are the busiest corners of the wedding season? New South Wales and Victoria lead at a regional level, together accounting for three-quarters of the combined wedding task volume from January 2022 to August 2026.
Queensland and Western Australia are the emerging locations to watch. Both saw year-over-year growth in wedding-related demand from January to August 2026, up 13.4% in Queensland and 17% in Western Australia.
On a city level, Sydney slightly edged ahead of Melbourne in wedding task volume, while Melbourne recorded stronger year-over-year demand growth at 5%. Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide rounded out the top five cities by task volume. Notably, Perth was the fastest-growing capital city, with wedding task volume up 18.9% in January to August 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
The growth story extends beyond capital cities, with regional markets showing some of the strongest increases in wedding-related demand. Gold Coast saw the biggest jump at 57% year-over-year, followed by Geelong at 23% and Sunshine Coast at 22%.
For Taskers outside the major metros, the data shows an encouraging trend. While regional cities have smaller task volumes than Sydney and Melbourne, the faster growth suggests a growing pool of wedding work.
How much are couples paying for wedding help?
Australian couples are spending an average of nearly $40,000 for weddings in 2026, up 8% from the previous year, according to industry reports. However, to combat cost-of-living pressures, more couples are turning to micro-weddings and simpler celebrations over the traditional big-day blowout.
This shift plays to Airtasker’s strengths. Instead of committing to a full-service wedding package, couples can book individual specialists, paying only for what they actually need.
For photography and videography specifically, couples are typically budgeting $300 to $400 for their wedding-day coverage on the platform. Meanwhile, wedding-related bookings for hospitality services run $248 to $331, compared with $227 to $260 for standard jobs.
Here’s a closer look at the typical pricing for wedding-related bookings versus everyday tasks in these two categories:
Photography’s priciest months line up with wedding demand spikes during spring and summer. Interestingly, wedding hospitality pricing peaks in June and September instead, likely due to complex jobs tied to larger, indoor venue setups and fuller catering needs.
What else goes on the wedding checklist?
Apart from core wedding services, Airtasker data also shows a growing demand for beauty and entertainment services. Wedding glam remains a priority, with beauty and hair services showing a 22% jump in task volume from January to August 2025 to the same period in 2026.
Soft glam, curls, waves, and updos remain the go-to choices for bridal beauty services, but not every bride is after a traditional look. Requests for Bohemian, avant-garde, Y2K, and Old Hollywood styles suggest that wedding beauty matches the event’s broader aesthetic or the couple’s personalities.
For entertainment, DJs are the most popular hire, followed by vocal or performance acts, and live music. Although DJs are still the default entertainment choice, there’s a noticeable resurgence in demand for live music, with task volume growing well over 100% in January to August 2026 versus the same period last year.
With wedding DJ services, flexibility beats sticking to one genre. Posters are looking for DJs who can read the room and mix different formats throughout the night. However, versatility can also mean knowing how to cater to Australia’s multicultural wedding scene. Requests for Bollywood, Arabic, and Latin music can give DJs with cultural music knowledge another way to stand out.
Quick take for Posters and Taskers
Planning or picking up wedding work? The busiest wedding months create opportunities for both sides of the Airtasker marketplace. Here are a few tips for couples planning ahead and Taskers making the most of the seasonal rush.
For Posters:
- Book wedding-related services (especially event photography) well ahead of spring. This is the busiest season for wedding services, so booking early can help you secure a Tasker before demand peaks.
- Consider November if your wedding date is flexible. It follows the October peak and is one of the more affordable months for wedding photography, hospitality services, and alterations.
- Be specific about your wedding theme when posting a task. This can help you connect with Taskers who have the right expertise, from Bohemian wedding planners to Bollywood wedding DJs.
For Taskers:
- Plan your availability beyond spring. While October is a good month to keep your calendar open, elevated demand for wedding help extends from July through the summer.
- Consider bundling photography and video services or partnering with a videographer. Posters are increasingly looking for one Tasker who can cover both, making combined photo and video services a useful offering.
- Offer flexible hospitality support around the full event. Waitstaff, catering, and event setup are all in demand, giving you multiple ways to pick up wedding work.
- Look beyond the major cities when targeting wedding work. Gold Coast, Geelong, and Sunshine Coast are regional markets where demand for wedding help is outpacing that of the cities that lead in overall task volume.
With demand rising across photography, hospitality, and other wedding-related services, there are plenty of ways for couples to get extra help and for Taskers to put their skills to work.
Whether you’re getting ready for the big day or looking to earn more, Airtasker can help you get things moving. Post a task to find the wedding help you need, or browse available jobs to make the most of the busy season.
