Warmer days are here, and Aussies are ramping up efforts to prepare their homes for the heat. With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting above-average daytime and night-time temperatures through summer, now’s a good time to tackle jobs that make home life more comfortable.
But it’s not all home upkeep. For some households, summer is also a time to move and take on bigger projects. We dug into Airtasker data to see which tasks are trending and where Tasker opportunities lie this season.
Pool cleaning and fan installs are already climbing
Warm-weather tasks are moving up the to-do list of Australian households. Ceiling fan installation is one example, with task volume increasing by 13% year-on-year in September 2026. Demand for pool cleaning is also rising, up 145% in September compared with its winter low in June.
Many households are also gearing up for backyard catch-ups and outdoor meals, which makes BBQ assembly another task to watch. Demand typically spikes around major retail events and is likely to grow in the lead-up to Christmas.
The chart below shows how demand for these tasks on Airtasker changes throughout the year:
Warm-weather activity starts early and peaks later in the year
Based on Airtasker data from 2023 to 2025, demand for warm-weather tasks starts to build in August, with pool cleaning, ceiling fan installation, and BBQ assembly typically peaking in December.
Pool cleaning gets an especially strong start, even before spring, with August task volumes from 2023 to 2025 ranging from 36% to 53% above the winter low recorded in June or July.
Gardening is yet another category that grows busier in August and stays busy through summer. Lawn mowing was the most requested gardening job in summer 2025, reflecting the extra upkeep needed as grass grows faster in warmer months.
Summer is also a popular time to move
Moving house is another part of the summer task mix, with demand for removalists consistently increasing from winter to summer. Task volumes rose 7.1% from winter 2023 to summer 2023-24, followed by a 16% increase in 2024-25.
With longer days and many Aussies taking time off over the holidays, summer offers a practical window to move house and tackle jobs that come with settling into a new place.
Different cities, different levels of demand
Warm weather may bring the same to-dos for households across Australia, but some cities see more activity than others. Sydney and Melbourne, for instance, start booking pool maintenance at around the same time, although demand is higher in Sydney overall.
During the busiest months for pool cleaning in 2024 to 2025, Sydney accounted for about three in five pool cleaning tasks posted across the two cities. Its lead held steady from September to February, staying at or above 59% every month.
The differences between cities extend beyond pool cleaning to other warm-weather tasks, including gardening. Between June and September 2026, gardening task volumes grew by around 62% in both Sydney and Melbourne, although Melbourne had nearly twice as many gardening tasks. The biggest increases came from Perth and Adelaide, where demand more than doubled.
Other home maintenance categories also saw growth between June and September 2026. Cleaning demand increased in all five capital cities, while Adelaide recorded the strongest growth in handyman tasks.
Two more tasks to plan for: outdoor furniture assembly and pest control
Outdoor furniture assembly gains momentum before summer as households get their outdoor spaces ready to use. From June to September 2026, demand for this service grew by 68%. Jobs ranged from assembling outdoor dining sets to putting together sun lounges, hammocks, and daybeds.
Pest control follows a different seasonal pattern. While many warm-weather home services peak in December, pest control’s busiest month is January, based on Airtasker data from 2023 to 2025. This may be linked to sustained summer heat, which makes common household pests and stinging insects more active.
Quick take for Posters and Taskers
Warm days bring a fresh set of home projects and opportunities. Whether you’re booking help around the home or deciding which services to offer this season, here’s how to put the trends to good use:
For Posters:
- Book popular home services ahead of the December rush. If you need pool cleaning or ceiling fan installation, start looking for a Tasker early so you have more time to compare options.
- Plan a summer move with some flexibility. Scheduling outside the busiest weeks (early to mid-December) may give you more choice of Taskers.
- Get ahead of pest problems before January. If you’re already noticing insects or signs of pests around your home, arrange an inspection or treatment now.
For Taskers:
- Add outdoor furniture and BBQ assembly to your services. As households get ready for summer entertaining, offering to assemble dining sets, hammocks, and BBQ units can help you attract more jobs. Update your profile with relevant skills and photos of past assembly work.
- Look for gardening jobs in Melbourne, Perth, or Adelaide. Gardening demand is rising sharply in all three markets. Make the most of the busy season by keeping your availability up to date and highlighting services like lawn mowing and planting.
- Keep your calendar open for removals beyond Christmas. If you offer removals services, plan your availability beyond December and consider promoting related services, such as furniture disassembly and rubbish removal.
From getting your home summer-ready to finding your next job, Airtasker can help you get started. Post a task to find help with your to-do list or browse available jobs to connect with people who need a hand.
