Introducing: Dogtasker?

At Airtasker, we’re always looking for innovative ways for people to get their everyday tasks done. We saw a huge opportunity to utilise an untapped labour market that makes getting tasks done easier, and more accessible. That’s why we’re enabling dogs to help their neighbours like never before.

In Australia, dogs are the most common pet with 39% of households owning a dog. There are estimated to be 4.2 million pet dogs in Australia; that’s 19 dogs for every 100 people.

The Animal Health Alliance estimates Australians spend $8bn on pets annually. However, here at Airtasker we estimate that the average dog spends 14 hours a day lying down or sleeping.

Isn’t it time you asked yourself, not “what can I do for my dog”, but “what can my dog do for me”?

And then, there was Dogtasker.

We’ve got something BIG to share with you…

There’s a huge underutilisation of dog labour in Australia, some of the highest in the world.

We estimate over 40 million dog hours per day could be spent performing useful tasks.

You could earn over $500 a week by getting your dog to perform tasks. You could turn man’s best friend, into your bank account’s best friend!

Things you can get done with Dogtasker:

  • Food Delivery
  • Cleaning
  • Furniture Assembly
  • Gardening
  • Dog Walking
  • Web Design

Ok, now let’s be serious for a minute, dogs are great companions and can seriously perform tasks for people who are disabled. We’d like to place a spotlight on the fantastic dogs who work tirelessly to enhance the independence and safe mobility of disabled people.

Assistance Dogs Australia is a national charity which trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help people with disabilities, providing them with greater freedom and independence.

In 2016 the charity celebrates its 20th birthday, having placed over 200 Assistance Dogs across Australia. Dogs are placed free of charge to a wide range of clients, including families with autism, people living with post-traumatic stress, schools, people with dementia and people with physical disabilities. It costs, in excess of, $27,000 to train and place a dog, and Assistance Dogs Australia receives no government funding.

For more info, visit assistancedogs.org.au or call 1800 688 364.

Please note: No dogs were harmed in the making of this video – all of the beautiful dogs were with their training handlers throughout the entire duration
