Banish your laundry woes, one stray sock at a time.

Ah, laundry day. It seems to come round a lot more often than we’d like. Why is that laundry basket always overflowing?

Let’s get real, nobody loves doing laundry. You can find great laundry services in London, but on those days you need to get it done yourself, check out 10 hacks for easier and fresher results.

1. Whiten whites with baking soda

Is there anything this super handy household product can’t do? As well as being a helpful cleaning agent, a cup of baking soda in your laundry load keeps your whites looking nice and bright.

Farewell to chemical laden bleach.

2. Rub chalk over grease stains

Rub a little chalk directly onto any greasy stains before tossing into the wash. It’ll soak even the oiliest stain right up (yes, we’re looking at you bacon drizzle).

3. Get rid of ink stains with hairspray

Got a can of hairspray lying around that you haven’t used for ages? You’ve got a use for it now. Spritz directly onto the offending ink stain, wait a minute, and then wipe with a damp cloth.

4. Clean your washing machine with baking soda + vinegar

Every few months, give your washing machine itself a good old clean. A non-toxic method is adding a couple of tablespoons of baking soda to your detergent drawer and a litre of vinegar directly into the drum.

Run a wash at high temperature and the insides of your washing machine will thank you.

5. Throw in a fluffy towel for faster drying

If you’re a tumble dryer person, you’ll undoubtedly want to speed up the drying process to save on bills and energy.

Pop a dry fluffy towel in your dryer with your load, and it’ll help absorb the water from your wet clothes. Pull it out about 15 minutes into the cycle.

6. Use mesh bags for washing socks

It’s a given that stray socks will go missing. But you can reduce the possibility by grouping all your socks into a mesh bag before popping into the wash.

Less chance of them sticking onto your bedding or getting left behind in that black hole of a drum.

7. Spritz dirty clothes with vinegar

Reduce your washing frequency by spritzing diluted vinegar onto worn clothes. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and is great for naturally deodorising away any musty smells.

Spray the inside of your clothes and hang to dry in a well-ventilated space.

8. Soften your clothes with DIY fabric softener

Want baby soft clothes that smell super fresh on the cheap? Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with half a cup of your favourite hair conditioner, and use as you would any fabric softener.

9. Get rid of wrinkles with ice cubes

Who has the time to iron these days? Sure, you can get ironing services in London, but you could also try the simple trick of popping a few ice cubes into your dryer. The ice cubes will turn into steam and de-wrinkle your clothing for reduced creases.

10. Use a hair straightener to smooth out smaller areas

While we’re talking wrinkles, hair straighteners are actually great at smoothing out small wrinkled areas.

No need to lug out that clunky ironing board for some minor creasing.
