Airtasker’s Inaugural Top Tasker Awards (AU)

By Tim Fung

Updated: February 2nd, 2023

A new initiative from Airtasker recognises Australia’s top-performing Taskers.

Let us raise our glasses to our Aussie Taskers!

Our Top Tasker Awards celebrate the skilled Aussies who went above and beyond to provide outstanding service throughout a challenging 2021.

“Each and every one of our Top Taskers have won over their clients with their craftsmanship, positive attitude, and excellent customer service, and we can’t wait to see what lays ahead for them all,” said Tim Fung, Co-founder and CEO at Airtasker.

Dubbed the ‘Shed King’ by one of his clients, 42-year-old Damian from Victoria is Australia’s Top Tasker of the Year. He boosted his income by $17,000 in December alone by assembling sheds for space-poor Aussies. His hard graft and commitment to helping Aussies get the job done during a hectic year scooped him the top prize.

Additional winners of the state titles include Josefina, a New South Wales artist who designed media personality Georgia Love’s bridesmaid cards. There’s also Joseph, a handyman from the Northern Territory, whose earnings on the marketplace paid for his wedding!

An increase in Tasker sign-ups

2021 was definitely a year of growth for the flexible economy, and it showed in our Tasker sign-ups. Our community grew by 13% as Aussies embraced new ways of working

As lockdowns eased in October 2021, we saw a significant 34% uplift in monthly Tasker registrations. With this, Taskers were able to boost their income and help others simultaneously. It was only fitting to celebrate the growing, diverse, and skilled community of Top Taskers across the Aussie community.

“Our mission is to empower people to realise the full value of their skills. Whether it be lending a hand in the garden or helping others to navigate their tax returns, building a full-time business or a side hustle to fund a special occasion, we wanted to recognise the outstanding Taskers who help Aussies get more done every day,” said Fung.

Fung added, “The last two years have been tough for many Australians, and we’ve been super impressed again and again by our incredible Taskers who have continually delivered for their customers.”

2021 Top Taskers

We crunched the numbers over the past 12 months to identify Australia’s top-performing Taskers. Their average rating, reviews, and completion rate were among the key metrics used in determining the awards.

Eight recipients scored high across all metrics in their respective states, while one recipient scored highest across all metrics in Australia. This demonstrated their commitment to delivering value to their community.

All recipients will be rewarded with a Top Tasker badge to be displayed on their Airtasker profile so that their remarkable contribution is easily identifiable by customers. They will also be granted a one-on-one mentoring session with CEO Tim Fung to help them grow their business and Airtasker credit.

Australia’s Top Tasker of the Year: Damian, 42
Shed Construction

Damian has been with Airtasker since 2017, thanks to a suggestion from his wife. He took a knack for assembly work and quickly racked up a clean sheet of over 800 five-star reviews in shed construction!

His rave reviews led him to several job offers, which he turned down to enjoy his ongoing exposure to meeting new people and controlling his workload. Thanks to Airtasker, Damian was able to leave his 6:30 – 5:30 schedule and even watch his daughter more times in the week.

NSW Top Tasker of the Year: Josefina, 43
Art and Design

Josefina’s income took a hit during the pandemic when she was made redundant. She turned to Airtasker and used her illustrations and art and design skills to turn her side hustle into a full-time business.

With over 80 five-star ratings, Josefina’s customers fell in love with her ability to turn any brief into a beautiful piece of art. She impressed many, including Airtasker CEO Tim Fung, with her illustrations. She painted the CEO’s family portrait and even created custom bridesmaid dresses for The Bachelorette’s Georgia Love!

VIC Top Tasker of the Year: Heather, 34
Business and Admin

Heather wanted to find a way to live beyond her disability pension. Unable to take on traditional work, she joined Airtasker to contribute to household expenses and build her confidence.

With 16 years of experience in proofreading and editing, she impressed plenty of customers with her efficiency and outstanding writing skills. Now, she has over 130 five-star reviews, a clean sweep of positive feedback, and a career that she loves!

QLD Top Tasker of the Year: Kelsie, 26
Social Media and Marketing

Kelsie exemplifies the tenacity and drive of the wider Airtasker community. She offered her marketing and social media skills for small businesses despite being diagnosed with cancer in 2021.

Kelsie adapted to remote work while being immunocompromised throughout the pandemic. She created a role for herself by launching her own business through Airtasker and delighted customers with a strong work ethic, creativity, and passion for her work.

Although Kelsie had to reduce her working capacity whilst in the thick of five surgeries and immunotherapy, she slowly started rejoining the marketplace. She also hopes to be cancer-free at her next scan session in February to continue supporting the growth of small businesses across Australia.

SA Top Tasker of the Year: Samantha, 40
Cleaning and Gardening

Samantha, a single mum of two, first joined Airtasker in 2020 to make a temporary income during the lockdowns. She found herself booked out five days a week with her knack for cleaning and customer service thanks to over two decades of experience as a hairdresser.

Today, Samantha uses Airtasker as a side hustle after lockdown eased, but she maintains strong relationships with customers. She is consistently praised for her outstanding work ethic, understanding, and willingness to go above and beyond.

ACT Top Tasker of the Year: Dave, 43
Handyman & Removals

From putting together a small table to moving an aquarium to its new home, Dave showed that no task is too big or too small. He has over 350 five-star reviews to prove it!

Dave’s customers love his speedy service, excellent communication, and willingness to turn his hand at even the most complex jobs. Thanks to them and Airtasker, Dave was able to save up for a father-daughter holiday to Cairns and get a head start on his housing deposit!

WA Top Tasker of the Year: Howard, 47
Gardening

Howard originally joined Airtasker for his video and editing skills, but it was his background in gardening that sealed the deal! Thanks to this, he was able to build a niche in gardening maintenance.

Howard now plans to bring his skills Australia-wide with a van he was able to purchase. He plans to travel across the country with his wife while picking up tasks as they go from town to town!

NT Top Tasker of the Year: Joseph, 27
Furniture Assembly and Gardening

Joseph never expected his Airtasker earnings to pay for his wedding day back when he joined in 2018. He won over customers with his friendly personality, can-do attitude, and drive to go the extra mile as he helps move houses and assemble trampolines.

Joseph’s work on Airtasker has turned into a passion project, and he continues to share his skills as a side hustle.

TAS Top Tasker of the Year: Damilola, 27
Accountancy and Tutoring

Currently studying for his PHD, Damilola’s drive to help people brought him to Airtasker. Utilising his natural talent for teaching, he shares his knowledge as a tutor and accountant. With a string of five-star reviews under his belt, he helps customers with everything from creating trade diaries to analysing statements for share trading.
