34+ Mid-century modern bedroom ideas

The mid-century modern style rose to popularity in the 50s and 60s and eventually debuted back on the styling scene. The ever-so-timeless design is characterised by a neutral palette with pops of colour, plenty of timber, and lots of simple lines.

It’s the kind of style that you can easily weave into the bedroom you’ve already got without having to make a lot of tweaks. Add a side table here, a picture frame there, and voila – you can completely transform your bedroom into a mid-century-modern oasis.

Alright, are you ready to be inspired? Read on for 34+ mid-century modern bedroom ideas.

1. Plant-filled corner

Plants are necessary in every design. Whether big or small, they bring plenty of life, colour, and movement to a space and are the perfect filler for negative space.

2. Let the light in

Open the windows and let in the fresh air! This sweet bedroom is a breath of fresh air, with its simple off-white bed sheets and covers, a simple side table, and a beautiful plant.

All of this timber is a nod to mid-century modern style, and you can easily incorporate it into your home with your choice of furniture.

3. Contrasting colours

Sometimes, light bedrooms need a bit of contrast, and that’s what this space creates. There’s a dark bed frame, brown bedside tables on each side, a few paintings on the wall, a timber grandfather clock, a black-framed full-length mirror, plus a touch of green with the throw on the bed. Everything else is light or white, and it’s gorgeous!

4. Turquoise and coral

This design reminds me of a sweet coastal Summer escape. The turquoise wall is absolutely stunning. Plus, the pop of coral-coloured pillows are a cute touch!

5.  A pop of yellow!

There’s nothing like a lovely shade of yellow to brighten up a room, and this one is as gorgeous as ever. This space is so out of the box, yet all design elements come together perfectly.

Plus, how fun is that wall design and lighting above the bed? It adds so much colour and personality to this space.

6. In the shadows

This mid-century modern bedroom is sweet and simple, and sometimes that’s just best! It has a black bed with timber touches on the wooden headboard, whilst the handful of books and black lampshade on the side table add great contrast.

7. Timber dresser

There’s no denying timber is a popular choice for mid-century modern style, and this dresser takes the cake! It’s vintage-esque but can be brought into today’s day and age with other design elements like bold black (see that gorgeous round mirror!).

8. Green tones

Ahh, forest green.. one of my favourite shades of all time. It’s deep and sets the perfect foundation for this room. This shade is so versatile because you can build lighter colours on top of it – take white, timber and cream as examples!

9. Make it grainy

Do you want to use timber but want your bedroom design to look different from everyone else? Try a grainy timber! This feature wall behind the bed creates a beautiful backdrop for cosy nights snoozing away. Plus, the two mood lights on either side of the bed are installed perfectly!

10. Hang a print

One of the most neglected parts of any room is the walls. They’re so often left bare without any colour, texture or life. If this is the case for your bedroom walls, why not shop around for a fun print?

I like this black and white one. It matches the room’s overall aesthetic and adds a much-needed touch of darkness to this white space.

11. It’s in the details

When styling your bedroom, it can be easy to consider all the main elements like a bed, bedside tables and storage. But the little details usually take a bedroom from average to amazing.

Take inspiration from this room, which has mood lighting in the ceiling and elegant globe lights above each bedside table – how very cool!

12. A pop of blue

Ooh-la-la, this room spells love. The powder-blue tone exudes luxury! And the contrasting colours of the bed, blue and white pillows make the blue just pop out! This is the kind of space where every little detail has been taken care of, and it really shows!

13. Macrame touches

Here’s another boho-inspired mid-century modern room. The hero here is the macrame hanger sitting pretty above the bed. Plus, a homemade piece like this will really make your space feel more cosy if that’s the look you’re going for!

14. Colourful cushions

Speaking of cosy, there’s nothing more comfy than a bed full of cushions! And these ones are just so sweet. The grey and dusty yellow tones are lovable. They’ve been combined with cream and grey to keep things more neutral.

15. Fall touches

There’s just something so homely and cosy about checkers! So, if you want to create a fall-inspired mid-century modern room, this is an excellent choice for you! Combine checks with dark framed print on the wall, a dark timber bedside table, and an industrial lamp to finish things off.

16. Make it inviting

If you’re looking for a simple way to update your bedroom without overhauling every aspect, the good news is that you can! And this space provides all the inspiration.

All it takes is the addition of a candle on the window sill, on the dresser drawer bedside, or a couple of plants and flowers. Take a look at the greenery from the plants by the window – it’s just too sweet!

17. Simple and white

Colour not your thing? No worries! You can still create a mid-century modern bedroom with white. Just be sure to use different patterns and textures (notice the ones on the bed sheet). And make sure you incorporate plenty of beige tones, too!

18. Rustic colours

Mid-century modern bedrooms typically incorporate a lot of warm tones. So, if this is the look you want to go for, take inspiration from this bedroom design. The wooden headboard and timber frame make this room look so cosy. And the black and white print on the wall is too cute!

19. Picture frames – everywhere!

Need help deciding on one print that you love? Go all out with an entire collection! This bedroom design is the perfect example of “less is more.” This room looks so sleek and pristine. The prints are gorgeous, and the splash of colour adds a fresh touch, too.

20. Comfy pillows

If there’s one thing worth spending big on, it’s your bedding! I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing like falling into a freshly made bed after a long workday. And silky sheets are bound to make sleep time so much more pleasant!

21. Unique headboard

Elevate your bedroom design with luxurious materials like this white leather-padded headboard. It truly is a statement piece, expanding right across the entire back wall of this space. The timber accents, bedside table, and bed cushions perfectly tie this look together!

22. Mustard yellow and gold hardware

Sucker for light, bright pieces but love a little moodiness too? I’ve got the perfect solution for you! Why not both?! Combine the perfect amount of light and dark with bright colours, a forest green wall, and gold highlights.

23. Gold mirror on display

Oh my, would you look at this mirror? It’s truly a stand-out in this room. And combined with a vintage dresser, it’s perfectly mid-century modern.

24. Blush touches

Add some soft pink touches if you want to keep things light but don’t want your bedroom to be all white. You can easily do this with your bedding by choosing blush pillow covers and a blanket to match!

25. Make it calming

Want to know how you can create a cosy oasis of “calm” in your mid-century modern bedroom? Add a few simple details! Let’s take inspiration from this space.

First, there’s the cute print framed on the side. And then there’s a bunch of fluffy pillows on the bed. Finally, a quaint vase and a handful of books are on top of a lovely white and timber bedside table.

26. Minimalist modern

This bedroom design is another great example of “less is more.” The light timber, white, and off-white elements keep things simple, whilst the grey and beige cushions give it a pop of colour!

27. Boho touches

Do you feel like your bedroom is too cold? Add brown, beige, off-white tones, and boho touches to create life and warmth. There’s a lot of greenery that complements the boho aesthetic. And that bookshelf and chest at the foot of the bed adds so much interest.

28. Neutral colour palette

How calming is this little space? If you want to create a reading nook in your master’s, take inspiration from this one. I love the neutral colour palette made exciting with lots of texture.

There’s the seat with a woolly throw, soft pillows, and some plants to brighten the space. Also, the little vase with a plant is a great addition sitting pretty on the side table.

29. Vintage finds

Take your style back in time with pre-loved items like these. First, there’s the round table with a cute timber chair. And then there’s the fancy dark vintage dresser and mirror, which is heaps of fun. And take note of that old wooden cabinet!

This design is proof that restyling doesn’t have to mean brand new. You can create something just as striking by sourcing items from secondhand stores.

30. Mixed materials

Sticking to one material can be tempting when designing any space. But this bedroom proves this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, the more materials, the better!

Take note of various elements such as some greenery, dark and light timber, different wall colours, and a painting. These elements complement each other and add so much to this room.

31. Hang it on the wall

Are your bedroom walls bare? This is too often the case in so many bedrooms, but the answer doesn’t have to be complicated. You can make all the difference to your bedroom design by simply installing floating shelves or storage shelves like these.

You can place pretty little picture frames on them with your favourite memories inside. And you can also put plants and other decor items on display!

32. Black details

Sometimes, you just need to change things up and add dark tones; this main bedroom design does this well. First, there’s the sleek black sheets, a black headboard, and then a few black-framed prints on the wall. These little details can make all the difference to your space.

33. High-end luxury

Create an ambience in your bedroom with creative lighting solutions. The sunlight from the glass window fills and bounces around the room. It naturally illuminates the space with natural light. Plus, the timber bedframe complements the overall aesthetic.

34. Two-toned wall

How gorgeous is this setup? Sure, it’s a little different, but it’s so much fun! If you want to recreate this look, paint half of your wall one colour and leave the rest white or paint it another colour entirely.

The shade of forest green works perfectly with the other warm tones in this bedroom to create a cosy oasis. Plus, the rug adds some contrast and plenty of texture.

There you have it, 34+ mid-century modern bedroom ideas. It’s tricky to pick a favourite! But anything gold or brass, timber, and light colours work for most people. Texture and complementing elements are always important!
