Passage door knob is stuck will not turn and open

Fix holes in door, and finish flatpack wooden bed. Too many screws for these old arthritic hands

The door latch/lock is not latching properly in the gap and even after latching, the door can be opened from inside and outside. Attached are the pictures. Just need the latch to be fixed so that door cannot be opened after its latched.
