What does an attic ladder installation include?

Attic ladder installation includes everything from cutting a hole in your ceiling to measuring the ladder's height and fitting the ladder in place. They'll carry out each step of the installation with care and precision, including:

Step 1: Measuring and cutting

Your loft ladder installer will start by measuring the space, checking the hole in your ceiling to make sure it's big enough to fit the ladder. They may cut a hole in your ceiling if you don't already have one or extend your current hole if needed. They'll check to ensure there are no cables or plumbing pipes above before making any cuts in your ceiling. If there are panels above where your attic access is, they'll cut these panels (provided they're not structural panels) to make a gap, allowing your ladder to fit.

Step 2: Fitting the ladder

Once your space is measured and prepared, your attic ladder installer will fit the ladder in the hole. This will include temporarily installing the ladder to ensure everything fits and that the hatch can be opened and closed properly. They'll also check that the ladder can be folded up into the ceiling before drilling all the pieces in place.

Step 3: Adjusting the height of the ladder

The final step of your loft ladder and latch installation is to measure the length the ladder needs to be. Most attic ladders come full length and need to be cut down to suit your ceiling height. Your technician will extend the ladder fully and measure how much needs to be taken off the ends before cutting it to the right length. They'll add stoppers to the ends to protect your floors from sharp edges. Once your ladder is installed, your technician will test the ladder themselves and do a final check to make sure it can be pulled down and accessed with ease.Â
