Top Product Photographers related questions

What is product photography?

Product photography involves capturing still images of products to be used in advertising and marketing.

When should you invest in product photography?

You should invest in product photography as soon as your new product is ready to hit the market (or once you have prototypes you can photograph). Invest in the best photography services you can afford at the time, and upgrade once you see a return on your investment.

What props should I get for photographing my products?

You may want to source products that make sense alongside your product. For example, if your product is a new blender, you may want it photographed with fruits, yoghurt, and a glass jar with a straw in the shot.

What supplies will my photographer bring to our session?

Your photographer will bring everything needed to take the photo, including the camera, tripod, lighting, and backdrop. All you need to supply is your product, along with any accessories you want to include in the image.

How long will it take for my product photographer to turnaround edited photos?

More product photographers need at least a week to turnaround the final images. This will depend on the number of products, the number of photos, and the extent of editing required.

How much does product photography cost?

Product photography typically costs between $90-$250 on Airtasker. The cost of your product photography might be higher or lower, depending on the number of images you need, the number of products, and how long the job will take to complete.

What does product photography include?

Product photography includes everything all the steps involved from setting up your products and taking the photos to edit. Your photographer will bring their camera, tripod, lighting, and backdrop if they’re shooting onsite, or they’ll bring your products into their studio space. Common product photography services include:

Flatlays for social media

Social media is all about the aesthetic and setting the scene for your product. Flatlays are a great way to highlight your product among similar products and create an interesting, engaging story. Usually, you’ll need to provide all the items you want in your photos and your product photographer will do the rest! But they can help with advice on items with suitable textures, colours, and uses that you may want to include. They’ll lay out your product on a flat surface under bright lighting before positioning the camera directly above your product. They’ll experiment with lighting and angles, and capture a range of photos before editing the ones that work best. Edits will usually involve cropping to a square (for Instagram), adjusting the levels, and applying a filter.

Studio product photography

If you want your product to stand out on its own, studio product photography is a perfect choice. Your product photographer will pick up your product or have it shipped to their studio where their bright lights, backdrops, and equipment are set up and ready to go. They’ll offer a white or black background but may also have a green screen and other colour/texture options. Studio product photography also includes editing your photos so they’re ready to be used in your catalogues, ad campaigns, social media posts, and eCommerce site.

Product modelling and photography

With a real person modelling your product in the photos, you’ll be able to tell a story about how the products can be used and who likes to use them. Your product photographer can either photograph you with your products or recommend a model from their existing contact list. Product modelling involves shooting your product with a person in the image while keeping your product as the key focus. This is a popular option for clothing and accessories, but other lifestyle products like makeup, skincare, and home decor are often shot with models.

Upload new products to online marketplace

£100

Hoxton, Greater London

8th Oct 2018

Maiden own The Gift Box and The Play Box in Boxpark in Shoreditch - since opening in 2009, they have quickly become the go to shops in east London for fun, fresh, and fearless design led products, gifts and greeting cards. They are looking to increase their online performance and need help uploading more products to their Trouva page, which acts as their sole e-commerce. WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO? Meet one of the Trouva team members first thing in the morning outside the shop in Box Park. Collect approx 20 small branded items and bring them to Trouva HQ/Nearby cafe to work from for the morning. Once settled, you can start entering each product into the boutiques' seller dashboard so that they can start selling these products on their Trouva page. Each product listing will require the following: - Brand - Product Title - Price - GTIN (Barcode number) - Description (2-3 sentences to describe the products - include keywords to optimise products for search engines) - Details (size, material, care, tech specs) - Variants (colour/size options) - Images (will be required to source these online from brands' website) You will be given a full guide on how to upload product listings onto Trouva, and how to make sure they are optimised for sale. Once you've finished the first batch of products, you will need to return the initial items to the store and collect a new batch. We will aim to get at least 50 products in a day, if not more. WHAT'S REQUIRED? You will need to bring your own laptop and charger. You will either be working within the Trouva offices or in a cafe down the road.

It was great to work with Lena, she is hard working, punctual and enthusiastic. I'd highly recommend working with Lena!
