What does a clothing alteration include?

Your seamstress or tailor is skilled in working with textiles, but especially clothing, to create, repair, and alter clothing. Here are some of the most popular clothing alteration services and what you can expect when you book them:

Need some custom sewing work to create a design from scratch or custom-fit to your size? Hire a seamstress or dressmaker to create or customise your dress or garment. They’ll start by measuring your shape and size with a soft tape measure to ensure the perfect fit. They’ll consult with you on designs and fabrics, before choosing or customising a pattern and cutting out the pieces. They’ll sew your garment or dress, taking care to finish off any edges with an overlocking stitch. Most dressmakers will request you to come in for a final fitting where you can try on the (mostly finished) garment and they can make final adjustments.

Formal wear alterations

When you want to look your best, it’s so important that your clothing is tailored to perfectly fit. Whether you need bridal alterations, school graduation alterations, corporate wear alterations, or suit alterations, a professional seamstress can help. They’ll take your exact measurements and then ask you to try on the outfit or dress, ideally with the shoes you plan to wear. Then they’ll note or mark up any parts that need taking in or loosening, and where the hem needs to sit based on your shoe height. They’ll use a mixture of machine and hand-sewing techniques to alter your clothing and finalise everything with a final fitting before your event.

Clothing adjustments

Most clothing you buy off the rack won’t be the perfect fit, or you might need your favourite clothes adjusted as your body changes shape over time. Book clothing alterations near you to help with dress shortening, garment shortening, and even school uniform alterations for those kids who won’t stop growing. Clothing adjustments usually involve taking seams in or out and adjusting the hem. Most hems have a few centimetres of extra fabric, so you can add extra length, or take it up for the perfect fit.

Clothing repairs

When your favourite dress or pants break, you don’t have to throw them away. Get a professional to take a look and see if they can save your garment with techniques like zipper repair, seam repair, new lining, hole patching, button sewing, and more. Extend the life of your clothing - it’s better for the environment and much more budget-friendly, too.

Clean 2 secondhand wool(?) rugs

Shoreditch, Greater London, EC2A

23rd Jun 2019

I need your help cleaning two secondhand rugs that I bought off of eBay. I think they’ve been walked on with shoes and/or placed outside. I would like to use them inside my home, so I would like them to be very clean. My guess is that the material is woven wool. Rug 1 is around 120x60cm, quite thick, and probably factory woven; rug 2 is around 200x90cm and probably hand woven. Please see photos. They have been through some wear and tear, so I think the cleaning should be gentle and thorough. Could you please provide me with a quote and let me know which cleaning method you would use? Thank you in advance. Available all afternoons next week (24-27), preferably Wednesday afternoon 26.06.19

Dying small polyester curtains

Shoreditch, Greater London, EC2A

22nd Sep 2020

Looking for someone with experience in dying synthetic curtains to dye my beige curtains grey. Curtains are 90 cm x 160 cm, 80% polyester and 20% linen. Because the curtains are made from synthetic fabric, they can only be dyed using the stovetop method, they cannot be dyed using a washing machine. I will provide the necessary dye, but will need advice on how much dye needed. I want to use Rit Dye Dyemore for synthetics Graphite colour. I have attached a photo of the curtains. Please feel free to provide me with a quote including transport and extra costs if necessary. Thank you for your help!
