Sand + Polish Kitchen Floor
Hi there, we recently renovated our kitchen and ripped up some old vinyl flooring which exposed some beautiful timber flooring. The floor has seen better days and needs to be sanded back and polished (ideally to match the adjacent living room floor - see photos). We believe the floor boards are pine and we think that 3-4 floor boards may need to be replaced as there are some holes from the previous owners renovations.
“David did an incredible job on our old kitchen floor boards. He seemed very knowledgeable about the timber and old Queenslander construction.. The floors look 100% times better then they did before. I feel like David may have underestimated the task and not allowed himself enough time, but the task was completed within a reasonable time frame.”

Thanks Luis I would love to be able to come and inspect but it’s against AT rules. This is because a few bad apples spoil it for the rest of us. I’ll make you an offer subject to inspection. That way we can exchange contact details and set up a meet to see if we are a good fit with each other. I live just in Carindale and invest in Queenslanders in Norman Park so your are are really in my back yard. Cheers Dave

Hi Luis what you have there is Hoop Pine. A lot of people won’t sand it when it’s this only but I specialise in it. I have done floors 100 years old. What it needs is to be sanded and polished with 3 grades of abrasive and then sealed. The bad news is it won’t match the other floors. That’s because they are coated with very old solvent based product. While it went on clear to show the beauty of Hoop Pine it has discoloured over time. The coating has gone yellow and now more of an amber or orange colour. You would be unwise to try to match it as you will more than likely want to sand and renew the coating in the not too distant future. The modern water based coatings don’t discolour over time and the natural lighter colour will look cleaner and fresher as it did originally. I have done a lot of Hoop Pine floors. Check my many 5 star reviews relating to sanding polishing and coating tasks. The timber is still available new but usually needs to be trimmed down to the old imperial sizes. Can you please advise the area in m2 ? That way I can work out materials a labour and provide you with an accurate offer. Pls advise Dave - Decades of Experience and fully Police checked.

Hi David. Thanks for your comment. We understand that the floor boards wont look the same as the ones in the living, but it was worth a shot. The overall kitchen is about 17m2, so I imagine there is only about 15m2 of accessible floorboards that need to be polished. The remaining are all under the island and surrounding cabinet work. Happy to arrange a site visit if you would prefer to see the boards in person.
