Old house has rising damp evident on recently painted walls in several rooms. House is circa 1930 made of brick with sandstone foundations. Paint is peeling off and some surfaces turning orange in colour.

John I'd suggest the direction toward a solution for the problem your having is to have the subfloor of the building assessed, mediating these issues superficially ( I.e. Where the damage is evident.) would only see the problem temporarily eased.

I have experience with assessing these situations and often the cause is poor ventilation due to excess rubble/stored materials or degrading prior building barriers for which the solution can vary in degree.

I'd highly suggest that a building inspection of the subgrade be the first point of call moving forward from there John 👍🏻
