Our hardwood deck (including balustrading, and privacy screens) needs to be repainted. Some of the wood is badly weathered. I would like the wood prepared so that I can paint it. Not sure if it requires sanding or can be treated in some way. It has previously been painted with Intergrain's DWD products.

Thanks for the photos Kathryn. I am only prepared to make you an offer to do the job right. It all needs sanding back to bare timber and recoating. I don't really like the old technology of oil based paints, oils and coatings. They are being phased out anyway. There are better technologies available but I'll put on whatever you want. Let me know if you want a proper job done on your deck and screen and Balustrades. It will exceed your budget however. You may prefer to go with a cheaper offer from someone else who is only going to do a partial sand and just seal over the top. While it's better than no protection, it's not really a good solution. I'm rejuvenating a large deck this week where the owner regrets being talked into this shoddy approach. Now he's getting a proper job - no cheap short cuts but I understand it's not for everyone.
Hi David
If you could provide a quote, it would be great. Could you give me an idea of what you are recommending we cover it with. I want something that will last a long time and is easy to maintain. I was happy with the DWD solution - we got 7 years out of it, but just them prep to re-do it has broken me.
Thanks
Kathryn
Hi Kathryn can you tell me the size of the deck pls? Can you also advise if the current coating is cracked or peeling? Is there any grey weathered areas? Pls advise. I am a deck specialist. Dave - decades of experience.
