Pay/Work information

Posted by Chelsea J.

Due date
Sunday, 2nd Sep 2012
I need to speak to someone in the legal industry who knows what pay is appropriate for the position I work in.

I need to know the amount to present when I ask for more.

I have already looked on the internet at ranges which does not give me a proper indication.

All I need is the information in an email or over the phone

Hi Chelsea, I agree with Bianca. However judging from your previous post, I understand what you mean and not all positions will have an award rate or a "standard". So if you are in that situation, seeking (free) legal advice should help you more than Fair Trading. But this really depends on how your position is actually defined.
I worked in recruitment and the best place to contact would be Fair Work Australia. They will be able to provide you with the accurate award rate for your position and from there you can work out how much more you want to ask for. I don't recommend using the FWA website as it is difficult to navigate, just give them a call.
Can I ask why you need help from someone in the legal industry: are you looking for employment law expertise, or is your position related to the provision of legal services? I am happy to help if I can, check out my profile and let me know.
thanks for your help, my actual position is not within the usual realms of any searches
Hi Chelsea, you'll also need to consider your position type (contract, fulltime, casual, etc.), how long you have been with the company and also exactly what skills you have to offer. Another way to judge your "value" would be to look up job search sites and make a list of all the jobs that you are CURRENTLY able to fulfil all the criteria for. That should give you a much more realistic amount.
