Issue after modem reset with connecting to MAC OS

Details
This is from our web developer:
Client runs Macs on a network in store. One Mac runs POS (lightspeed onsite).
Magento (offsite) connects to ssl://ipaddress:port in order to synch data.
-client will supply this ip/port when work starts

CAUSE?
It appears that after modem reset that this connection is lost possibly due to:
-modem reset was possibly a hard reset, i.e. back to factory settings.
-fixed ip address being lost. This has been re-established but problem persists.
-the port was being fwd. to the mac server and that is no longer happening.

SUGGESTION?
I believe (from my limited knowledge) that required to resolve is:
-Identify the IP address on the Mac (nothing has changed there)
Client will provide team viewer on that mac.
-Remote to the router from the mac and ensure the ipaddress/port is being correctly fwd/mapped to the Mac server.
-Identify any IP limitations the inbound connection may have (at the Mac and/or modem/router). This could allow you to test a ping from an external server if the Magento dev is not available to test for you.
Please document this.
Renae in our absence you could request CT to test the ping when the network tech has carried out above.
