We purchased a Garmin Sat Nav online. It's a nice little piece of technology but currently the most expensive paper weight we've ever bought because it comes with no maps and we've spent two weeks trying to download them. Looking for an expert who can take this currently useless devise and return it to us with point to point navigation as it was advertised it came with. I think you would need to be in Melbourne so you could collect the unit and make sure the upload works properly.

Technically the USB port can still charge, and just the wiring for the data could be damaged. Best bet is to visit the store, as it does sound like the flash memory may indeed be corrupt.

I'm pretty sure it charges as we've had it turned on and plugged in heaps in the past while to try and get it to work.

Hmmm, the Garmen people told us there is an store we can take it to. Might try to see if they're willing to tell us at least what's wrong with it without charging us. Haven't given our feedback for the purchase yet. Might see if I can send it back. Thanks everyone involved so far. Scott please call/SMS Daniel to let us know your next thoughts. Ta.
Should be able to check if it charges (or not) via USB.
It still turns on fine though? The only other thing that would prevent it getting recognised is if the USB port itself is damaged/loose.
