I have an old iPad (one of the original ones) that has a broken screen and won't allow me to sign in to get the photos off. Hoping there is an IT pro out there can help get them on to a USB.

Hi Hamish, former Apple tech here. Replacing the screen is your only option, the passcode in iOS is tied to full device encryption.
Unless you want to do what the FBI did and pay thousands of dollars to break it.
Hope that helps
It's also worth finding your Apple ID to see if your phone made an automatic backup to iTunes or the iCloud. Good luck

Thanks! Sounds quite complicated indeed. Could get the screen fixed but it’s one of the old original iPads
I don't think it really matters how old the model is. But older models aren't within the Apple Warranty Period so best go to any tech expert in your local shopping centre. They'll do it for half the price Apple charges
Ah yeah that's a tough one..

There's really two ways to go about it. The first is to repair the screen, probably will cost 159 from the top of my head.

Second is to use a third party program such as iMyfone D-Back or any other recovery programs. There's a few out there. You can download it for free from Google, just try to find a reliable looking website to avoid getting viruses. There will be plenty of tutorials online to show you how to do it step by step

Hope this helps
When you say you can't sign in do you mean the broken screen won't allow you to enter the Passcode and access the iPad at all?
and have you tried connecting the iPad to a computer

Can’t enter passcode

When you plug it in it asks to unlock on the iPad but you can’t because of the screen
