I have a vintage alarm clock that I purchased as a gift and I blew it by plugging it in and not checking the watt. It had some smoke come out of it but it's a Christmas gift for my partner so I'm looking for a cheap fix :(

Im guessing its a DC socket using the power lead as a transformer. You have probably blown most of the circuiting and is not worth replacing. That is unless it has a capacitor as a protector which most cheap electronics do, and this is the cause of the smoke.
Cheaper to replace than repair sorry
Do not believe it would be worth fixing as the same thing would happen again. As it's from America there voltage is 120 but in Australia the voltage is 240 so this is why it would have blown. If it is fixed the moment it's plugged back in it will occur again
Still have the receipt? Take it back ?
