I have a 9 year old tv. I want to get rid of Foxtel and just use Netflix, Stan etc through my Xbox but I don’t know if my tv is compatible or if we need to upgrade it. Also need to check how we can get normal free to air channels if we get rid of Foxtel as I don’t know if it’s connected to the aerial.

Hi Julie, I’ve configured all Apple eco system at my place and usually used Netflix, Stan and Amazon Prime which is now on Apple TV. I’d like to give it a shot and no result no payout.

Hi Julie, if you still need assistance with this let me know & I can come by and give you advice for all this. Thanks, Hugh
A 9 year old TV won't have any "smart" apps. It's unlikely to have a digital tuner to receive the additional channels on offer.
As suggested, you can always buy a digital FTA tuner for your current TV and use the XBox for streaming apps.
Of course you will need a digital terrestrial antenna installed to receive all the FTA channels.

New digital smart TV's can be had for under $1000 these days.
If the apps are compatible with your Xbox they will display on your TV. You can also buy a digital TV tuner for the Xbox so you can also receive FTA television.

What model Xbox do you have?
Of course you would still need an external aerial for this to work, but if your TV is 9 Year’s old it may not be able to receive the latest HD channels

Thank you. Xbox one.
You’ll be fine with that Julie. I have the Xbox one too and know Netflix is available. Not sure about Stan as I don’t watch it, but can check this for you when I get home.

The digital TV tuner only costs $29 at JB HiFi if you need that.

You certainly don’t need a new TV if the old one is fine. Just continue using it as a monitor and use the XBox One as a media server. It’s has all the smart features you would need.
If your tv is 9 years old I’d consider buying a new one.
Can pick up some good smart tvs pretty cheap with Boxing Day around the corner
