What do mobile scratch repair services include?

Airtasker’s mobile mechanics can handle different kinds of repair jobs: clear coat scratches, paint scratches or chips, and deep primer scratches. The process is more or less the same, regardless of the type of scratch. It consists of the following steps:

Before scratch repair: clean and prepare your car
The first step to repairing a scratch on your car is to give it a good wash. Your Tasker can handle car washing as well—be sure to indicate this in your task form.

Once your car is clean and dry, your Tasker or mobile mechanic will assess the depth of the scratch and mask off the area using newspaper and masking tape. This will prevent any paint or chemicals from settling onto the other parts of your car.

Finally, the mobile mechanic will apply a rubbing or cutting compound to the area around the scratch. This takes off a thin layer of the paint from the area around the scratch. This process will help the repainted part blend well with your car’s original coat of paint.

Mobile scratch and dent repair: repainting or repolishing
Next, the mobile mechanic will repair the damage caused by a scratch using paint, touch-up pens, a polishing machine, and rubbing compound.

For deeper scratches, such as paint and primer scratches, the mobile mechanic will need to redo the paint and clear coat layers. Taskers will apply these products in layers, with 10-30 minutes waiting time in between each coat.

Flattening damaged area via car scratch repair mobile service
After the paint and clearcoat layers have hardened and dried, the mobile mechanic will flatten the area using a rubbing compound or sandpaper. This process makes the area indistinguishable from the rest of your car’s exterior, and prepares it for the final step--

Polishing after mobile scratch and dent repair
Your car will be polished, waxed, and buffed to restore its original beauty. It’ll appear as if the scratch never happened! Feel free to ask your mobile mechanic to bring their own recommended products, or bring out your own. If you want, you can even ask Taskers to give your whole car a coat of polish and wax.
