What do handyman services include?

Handymen with good customer service can tackle a wide range of indoor and outdoor home DIY tasks. Here are some tasks you might ask a local handyman near you to pop around and help with:

General handyman services

Got a list as long as your arm of odd jobs that need a handyman to complete? Hire general labour handymen to get several things done at once. They can help with general maintenance tasks such as pulling up a carpet, hanging doors, fixing broken appliances and replacing light bulbs, garden work, and more.

Indoor installations and repairs

A local handyman can help install newly bought homewares or fix broken possessions (so you can hopefully save some money). For example, they can help with DIY blind installation and repairs, fitting and repairing the kitchen sink, fitting pet doors, hanging shower screens, and even wallpapering. They’ll get it done using their own specialist tools and will let you know if you need to provide or pay for any additional materials.

Outdoor installations and repairs

Your outdoor area and belongings have to deal with a lot. So help them withstand whatever nature (or your family) throws at them for longer by getting them professionally installed or repaired. Find a handyman who can help with garden shed installation, BBQ repair, fitting outdoor blinds, window repairs, fixing your mower, putting up your clothesline, and even repairing your kids’ trampoline.  The cost of these services varies. You can learn how much letterbox replacement costs or how much window blinds installation costs with our price guides.

Bricklaying and building work

You can hire a handyman near you with bricklaying and building experience to help build garden walls, repair loose brickwork, install MDF, or even construct a chicken coop. When getting quotes from tradesmen, mention if you’ve got the building materials already, or if you’d like them to supply the materials as part of the job.

Wall hanging

From pictures and TVs to bike racks and mirrors - if you need help with wall mounting, get a DIY handyman to fit your furnishings securely and make sure they’re level. Most handymen will bring their own tools, but you may need to supply extra materials such as screws, picture wire, or mounts for heavier electrical items like TVs and driers.

Furniture repair

When booking a handyman for furniture repair, you’ll need to be specific about the furniture that needs fixing. For example, handymen with carpentry experience may better if it’s your wooden coffee table, wardrobe, or sofa bed that need repairing. Meanwhile, a handyman with electrical experience may be right for any ceiling fan or digital fitness equipment fixes. That’ll ensure you get the best handyman near you for the job, plus the right tools to get it done.

Water hammer and leaky kitchen sink, toilet pan connector replacement

$99

Blackburn South VIC, Australia

6th Apr 2024

Hello, I need a skilled plumber to address some maintenance and repair issues in my home. Below are the specific plumbing concerns: 1. Leaky Kitchen Sink: Water is escaping from my sink. While it’s not a major issue during regular use, when the sink is full and I unplug it, there’s a noticeable leak underneath.I suspect wear and tear in the washer or O-ring, which may need replacement. 2. Water Hammer My pipes emit a loud banging noise when I turn the water flow on or off in both the bathroom and kitchen. Despite having our house water pressure inspected by Yarra Valley Water (with no issues found), the staff believes there might be an underlying problem related to the hot water system or other factors.Urgent attention is required to resolve this issue promptly. 3. Shower Head Leakage: My shower head leaks unless I tighten it excessively. It’s likely due to a faulty washer or jumper valve. 4. Toilet Pan Connector Replacement: Two toilet pan connectors need replacement. The rubber seals may have deteriorated over time. I’ve temporarily rotated the rubber seals and applied sealant and sticky tape to prevent further leakage. 5. Drain Trap Installation or Replacement: The old S-trap under the bathroom sink occasionally leaks. I’ve used a plastic pipe connector as a temporary fix, but I’m concerned about its long-term durability. Installing a new drain trap or reconnecting the old one properly would be ideal. If you specialize in plumbing repairs, please feel free to leave a message or provide a quote for any or all of the mentioned jobs. Thank you Nathan

Great work on fixing all my plumbing issues, including leaky water basin, water hammer, and replacement of the pan connector. Highly recommendend

Water hammer, Bathroom fan replacement and Leaky kitchen sink

$200

Blackburn South VIC, Australia

6th Apr 2024

Hi there, I need some professional help with some house maintenance and repairs as soon as possible, especially the water hammer. Below are the specific issues I’d like addressed: 1. Leaky Kitchen Sink: Water is leaking from my kitchen sink. Under normal use (minimal water collection and regular washing up), it’s not a significant problem. However, when the sink is full and I unplug it, there’s a leak underneath. I suspect wear and tear in the washer or O-ring, which needs replacement. 2. Water Hammer: My pipes make a loud banging noise when I turn the water flow on or off, especially with the shower taps. Yarra Valley Water has inspected our house water pressure, and there are no issues there. The staff believes the problem might be related to the hot water system. 3. Shower Head Leak: The shower head leaks unless I tighten it very tightly. It could be due to a faulty washer or jumper valve. 4. Old Bathroom Fan Replacement: The existing bathroom fan runs at a low speed and doesn’t effectively draw air out of the bathroom. As a result, there are cracks and mould on the bathroom ceiling. I’d like to replace the fan. However, during an inspection by an electrician, it was noted that the fan isn’t directly connected to the outside of my home through its own duct. Replacing the fan itself would address the issue, but I may need ductwork installed to vent outside. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re interested in these jobs, please feel free to provide a quote or leave a message below. Best
