What does a fence installation or repair include?

Fencing repairs vary depending on your fence type and the degree of damage - your fencing contractor will assess the situation onsite and provide recommendations. But if you need a new fence installed, here’s the process your fencing contractor will take you through:

    Step 1: Fence selection

The first step in your fence installation involves deciding what kind of material you need. Some of the most popular fence types include:

Solid panels - Colorbond and Good Neighbour fences are popular options for their durability (termite resistant), low maintenance, timeless classic style, and high privacy.

Timber - Wood fencing installers in your local area can add value and charm with a neat picket fence for the front yard, a pet-proof fence for the back, or even just do the fence painting and staining for you.

Brick - Brick fence installers can match your fence to the style of your home, and ensure your new fence blends in with neighbouring properties, and even build you a retaining wall.

Glass - Glass fencing is commonly used in pool fencing and balcony fencing.

Chain wire - Chain wire fences are an affordable option, made from wire mesh and held up with metal posts at regular intervals.

Screening - Easily hide an existing fence or create a privacy screen with brushwood fencing or bamboo fencing.

If you’re not sure on what fence to choose, your fencing contractor will help you select and order the most suitable fence for your area.

    Step 2: Fence installation prep

Your fence installation will start with site prep. This involves measuring and marking out the fence area, ensuring boundaries are correct, then removing trees and other obstructions. Once the fence line is measured, your contactor will dig holes for the corner, intermediate, and gate posts.

    Step 3: Fence post installation

Next, your fencing contractor will install the end, corner and gate posts, using a quick-set concrete mix. As the concrete sets, they will check that the post is plumb, level, centred on the fence line, and the correct height. Then they’ll install all the posts in between. Your fencing contractor may leave them overnight to allow the concrete to fully set before moving on.

    Step 4: Fence panel installation

Once the posts are secure, your fencing installer will attach the fencing material and panelling, ensuring it is secure and stable. They’ll finish off the fence with matching edges and capping, to protect the edges of the fence and internal bits from weather damage and rust. Then your fence installation will install gates and check they open and close smoothly.
