Hello Airtaskers! I have a small octagonal Gazebo which has now got brand new tin on top of it, but I need someone to install the ridge capping. The job: 8 pieces of colourbond ridge capping, 2.4m long, installed to the roof of a gazebo. LABOR only, I have all materials. Im lookinh for someone who is experienced, thank you.

Replace gazebo roof (thatch) with colourbond/.wood

    $1,000

    2nd Aug 2017

I currently have an African thatch gazebo in my back yard. it was in place when I purchased the property. The thatching is currently in need of replacement, and I'd like to explore options for placing a permanent roof on it, rather than thatching. The difficulty is the shape of the structure. It has straight edges across the length, but semi-circular ends (imagine a letter "U" connected to an upside down "U.") I'm not sure where it was purchased, but please see the below link (pictures 54 and 55) for what I believe to be the same structure (if not exactly the same, then it is very similar), with the exception that I think the height/angle of the gabling on mine is lower than the pictures (I don't think I have that many rows of thatching). Also, see picture 45 for a good idea of the structure of the underside of the roof. Wooden slats going up and down the gabling, with a metal base that runs around the top of each pole. [I had to remove the link as Airtasker won't let me post it, so google "Mr Thatch", and look up the pics of the "African Gazebo" in the photo gallery] I'd like to know what options I have to cheaply replace the thatching with colourbond (or similar), wood, or some other option that will provide shade but also potentially let some light through. The handy thing is the structure is all in place, and I am prepared to remove all of the thatching personally, so hopefully this will mean the job is much easier as you don't have to worry about installing the structure, just the roof element. I imagine the only "challenge" will be figuring out how to deal with the rounded edges. I am open to considering options that change the roof structure, such as some sort of addition to the structure that extends out and "squares off" the round edges in order to create a simple rectangular shape to work with, or physically altering the structure (there are plenty of those wooden beams around the semi-circles that could potentially be re-used if you were to replace the metal bit with something rectangular). In the event redoing the structure is the best solution, any ability we have to reduce costs through reuse/modification of the existing bits will be preferable. The project is very cost sensitive, so the simplest and cheapest solution is what I'm looking for. I am happy to look at an option whereby you procure the required materials for the job and include that in your fee, or you identify what you need and I'll pay for the materials directly. Whatever is cheaper! If you have any other questions, please let me know, and I'd be happy for you to come out and have a look at the structure and take some measurements etc. Also, I have to nominate a date that the task needs to be completed by and it would only let me select up to a month away, but there is NO HURRY on this task. I'm happy for it to be done anytime within the next 3 months.
