For those not lucky enough to have a live-in nail technician, it\u2019s nice to know how to give yourself a proper manicure once in a while.<\/p>\n<p>So, here are our <strong><a title=\"beauty specialist\" href=\"https:\/\/www.airtasker.com\/beauty\/\">beauty specialist<\/a><\/strong> tips for an at-home manicure.<\/p>\n<h2>Here&#8217;s a list of what you need to buy to give yourself a manicure<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Nail tool set (nail clippers, nail file, cuticle clipper, buffing file, cuticle pusher)<\/li>\n<li>Nail polish remover<\/li>\n<li>Cotton balls<\/li>\n<li>Cotton tips<\/li>\n<li>Nail brush<\/li>\n<li>Base coat<\/li>\n<li>Nail polish<\/li>\n<li>Top coat<\/li>\n<li>Cuticle cream or oil<\/li>\n<li>Hand cream<\/li>\n<li>Small bowl<\/li>\n<li>Hand towel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to do a manicure at home?<\/h2>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3275\" src=\"https:\/\/airtasker-seo-wordpress-blog-assets-prod.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/24064930\/Nail-polish.jpg\" alt=\"Manicure\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" \/><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Remove any old nail polish with a cotton ball and nail polish remover<\/li>\n<li>When all the polish is removed, fill a bowl with warm water<\/li>\n<li>Soak your fingers in the water for 2-5 minutes to soften your cuticles.\u00a0If you are experiencing any yellowing on your nails, squeeze some fresh lemon juice into the water to help bring your nails back to white<\/li>\n<li>While your nails are soaking scrub them with the nail brush to remove any excess polish and dirt<\/li>\n<li>Pat your hands dry when done<\/li>\n<li>Clip your nails to the desired length<\/li>\n<li>File your nails in a one-way direction, not backwards and forwards<\/li>\n<li>Buff your nails from the base to the free edge going front to back, not side to side<\/li>\n<li>Massage cuticle oil into your nail beds for hydration<\/li>\n<li>Wait a couple of minutes then loosen and push your cuticles away from your nail beds with the cuticle pusher<\/li>\n<li>Clip your cuticles with the cuticle clipper<\/li>\n<li>Wash any excess oil with warm soapy water and pat dry<\/li>\n<li>Apply a good quality hand cream. For a real salon-feel warm the hand cream in the microwave for 10 seconds before applying<\/li>\n<li>Apply the base coat and allow it to dry<\/li>\n<li>Apply 2 coats of the nail polish and allow to dry.
