Heather says she\u2019s somewhat of a rarity, \u201cI think I\u2019m the only handy woman in Sydney on Airtasker,\u201d she said. <\/span><\/p>\n

The UK-expat can do \u201canything a handyman would do\u201d from curtains and woodwork to landscaping and renovations. <\/span><\/p>\n

Heather developed her knack for DIY working as an events florist in England. She made floral arrangements for high-society weddings and for Queen Elizabeth II herself during a refurb of the Royal Opera House in London. <\/span><\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just arranging flowers. Sometimes her work involved building huge arrangements, some 20 feet high, others covering the walls and floors of hotel ballrooms.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heather changed trades and now runs a gardening and property maintenance business in Sydney\u2019s inner-west. If she\u2019s got no work one day she can just hop on Airtasker and pick up a job. \u201cIt gives you clients you wouldn\u2019t normally reach,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lot of Heather\u2019s clients are women who she says feel more comfortable with another woman in their home. \u201cSome of them tell me \u2018I\u2019ve been waiting for my husband to do this for bloody months!\u2019\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

For 50-year-old Heather what makes a great job is good company and the satisfaction of doing it well.<\/span><\/p>\n

She recently made a wooden cover for an A\/C unit for when the owner wasn\u2019t using it that came up real nice. \u201cIt looked great and the owner was chuffed. Not only was she pleased with the job, she enjoyed my company\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heather said Airtasker helps her pick the right job and the right client. \u201cI don\u2019t make an offer for a task unless I know can do it,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
